We start this weeks report at Little Dawley, where LDS
C played Hadley A. The Hadley side received a 25 point start,
which didn’t last long, as in the first frame C. Kesterton
set the home side on the way with a wide margin win of 72
points against an unlucky R. Francis. The next saw S. Hamilton
take on R. Benting, both players potting well throughout,
but it was Sam who eventually took the frame 54-36. Frame
three was a tight affair between P. Randal and A. Francis,
and yet again it was the home player who came out on top by
a winning margin of 4pointts. In frame four, some respite
for the away lads, as K. Whitehead potted some superb long
shots, and combined with safety, saw off S. Knight 78-23.
So in the last frame the Hadley Captain, Iain Atkinson started
14 points behind, but the home player C. Niblett played some
solid snooker to hold of the challenge from Iain, and see
his team through to the next round.
On the other table the LDS B lads faced Shifnal B, with
the away side having to concede 100 start. In the first game
young Aaron Sparkes cut the deficit by 36pts with a victory
over C. Gittus, In Frame two it was going to be an uphill
struggle for Lds B captain, Simon Evans, having to take on
Matt Davies. So it proved with Matt knocking in a 50 break
and eventually winning 94-12, putting his team ahead. Frame
three saw a good comeback for the home side, with P. Cottey
knocking in some great pots to pull back the advantage and
put his team back in front, beating R. Wright 56-31. Frame
four saw P. Clarke face N. Stallard, and it was the away side
who took the advantage back, with both players potting well
throughout. In the end the Shifnal captain Nigel Stallard
cleared the few remaining colours to put his side 38 points
up going into the last. Dave (The Rock) Peplow held of a determined
challenge from S. Darrock to put the Shifnal side through
to the 2nd round proper.

Minnesota Fats A at home to Maddocks B, lost their first two
frames when Wally Harper got the better of Kirk Stevenson,
55-39, and then Les Hicks beating Mick Egan 59-45. This was
a good start for Maddocks only having a 25 start in the handicap,
however, Maddocks hopes were severely dented when campaigner
Doug Morrey was beaten 105-25 by Neil Pearson. This signalled
the end for Maddocks as they also lost the next two frames,
thus seeing Min Fats into the next round.
In a repeat of the 2004/05 Team Knockout Final, Maddocks
A took on Bayley Q at the Bayley Club with the Bayley side
receiving 160 points as their start. That handicap was slightly
more than in the final two seasons earlier, and looked a bit
off the mark as the Maddocks side started with Ian Eldridge
racking up a score line of 92-22 playing Rob Cook. So with
nearly half the handicap gone in the first frame, Chris Durham
came to the table against Phil Davis. Phil won this frame
97-38, which put Bayley Q on the back foot to say the least!
Next up Chris Fletcher came up against the experienced Les
Stirling, and lost his frame 95-21. This score left the result
academic with Ian Skelton and Leigh France to play, and they
both won comfortably enough to see Maddocks A into the next
round, and 2004/05 Champions Bayley Q out in the first round
for their second year in a row.
Second Club A entertained Anstice C at home with a difference
of 35 points handicap in favour of the Anstice team. Second
Club regained that start as Ian Ferriday overwhelmed Darren
Wilkie. 67-16. The second frame was much closer with L. Giles
just beating John Jones 58-53. Steve Camp then took a frame
back for Anstice when he overcame G. Arnold 65-46, before
J. Williams replied for second club beating Chris Woods 50-34.
K Owen took the last frame for the second club against Frank
Williams to give second club victory by 106 points.
Dawley A, visiting the Coddon C side produced an emphatic
win over the Coddon team, nearly winning with a margin of
300 points to book their place in the second round. Sean Nolan
set the ball rolling by beating Matt Bothwell 74-34, before
Mark Jones got the better of Geoff Kerry 95-17. So well on
the way, and with Coddon missing some of their key players,
Dawley took full advantage of the situation. Next up saw Pete
Nolan playing Josh Wall, with Pete recording a score line
of 80-26. Young Mark Tusel then came up against Grant Heighway,
and was no match for Grant who scored 105 points to Marks
forty points. The last game saw Rick Bailey knock a 31 break
in on his way to victory over Ray Whitehead 83-14, and Dawley
strolling through to the next round.
The newly demoted Audco team met Anstice B, and after a
disastrous start by the Audco team when A. Kendrick’s
lost to Noel Stones 95-28 with Noel having a 44 break, never
recovered from that. Audco only won one frame and even at
level starts would have lost this match! Andy Phelan went
on in last spot trying to fetch back 110 points against the
useful Mick Cahill. Incidentally, Mick won this frame 68-31.
Bayley F performed very well and give Shifnal A tough match
but it wasn’t the Bayley’s night, as the Shifnal
side were too strong and came out victors at the end of the
battle by 63 points. Neil Price started well against Chris
Shaw with a 99-34 score line. Followed by the useful Ritchie
Hulme, who beat John Fallows 69-40. Young Tom Maxfield then
came up against Angus Way, and on this occasion Tom suffered
a rare defeat when Angus beat Tom, 73-46. Paul Maxfield then
lost to Andy Easthope 77-30 before Eddie Whitehead took the
last frame 59-42 against Simon Biddulph.
