The second week of theTelford Snooker League, and the
report starts in the second division.
Minnesota G continued their good start to the season when
they played the Second Club Trench A side at Minnesota, and
gained a 4-1 triumph over the Trench side. Minnesota G took
the first four frames until Lloyd Giles won the last frame
beating Aaron O’Donnell, that game finishing on a black
ball decider.
Nick Oakley got Anstice C off to a good start by beating
Mark Bedall of Bayley D, 64-28, recording a 28 break on the
way to victory.
Steve Camp and Andy Elliot added two more points to the tally
before Dave Dudley drew one point back with a black ball win
over J. Mills. The last game, also on the black, was secured
for the Bayley side when Daz Rhodes beat Mick Musgrave 54-43.
Bayley F, off to a flyer last week found themselves on the
end of a 4-1 defeat when they were at home to Anstice B.
Young Tom Maxfield lost to John Darrock in the first game
by 50-31 before Azer Khan stepped up to play Noel Stones.
Noel compiled a 42 break and left Azer in his wake with a
98-21 score line.
Paul Maxfield then pulled a point back for the Bayley side
before George Hammond and Stew Wimbush took the last two frames
in the match.
Shifnal F were hosts to Minnesota Fats A, and found themselves
two down in the opening frames, but after J. Elcock beat Mick
Egan on the black, that win seemed to revive the Shifnal side
as they went on to win 3-2.
Chris Painter finished the match in style putting together
a 31 break as he beat Neil Pearson 54-12.
Dawley B who haven’t quite got into their stride yet
were at home to Coddon B.
The Dawley side started with a win in the first game when
Paul Harper won a high scoring game against Mark Wall 63-55,
then as the match see sawed to two points all, it fell to
Nick Pearce for the Coddon side to secure the match winning
67-22 over Barry Roden.
Coddon C were 3-2 winners over L.D.S G, although it looked
by the score card that one game was claimed by the Coddon
side.
In the third division this week Bayley Q who have started
the season well, welcomed Maddocks B to the Bayley club, and
took three of the five points on offer.
The experienced Wally Harper was too good for Rob Cook in
the first frame with a comprehensive score line of 60-4 to
the Maddocks side, but Bayley Q replied by taking the next
three frames, albeit the fourth frame just pinched on the
black when Steve Weatherall beat Nigel White 53-44.
John Archer took the second point for the Maddocks men beating
Richard Tranter 52-18.
The Second Club B side maintained their good start by inflicting
a 4-1 defeat to the Newport B team. Although away from home,
Newport are a little slow off the mark this season so far,
but there’s a long way to go yet!
Comrades A, with a favourable result last week suffered a
5-0 trouncing at the hands of Shifnal D, with Chris Crook
from the Comrades being the closest to taking a point, but
losing on the black ball.
The new Hadley A side played their first match of the season
at Dawley playing the Dawley D side.
Ryan Jackson for the Dawley side, defeated Kevin Whitehead
on a black ball finis, and the only other Hadley player to
show any form was Iain Atkinson who gained the only point
of the evening for Hadley, beating Chris Nibblett 64-33.
Early days yet, but Anstice D once again have started like
a train, and as Audco found out last week, the Anstice D side
will be hard work for the other teams this season.
Anstice were at home to the Shifnal A side, and sent them
home with a 5-0 drubbing.
Although the scorecard indicated some close finishes, the
most impressive win of the evening came when Keith Blackham
returned a score of 77-38 against Angus Way.
Dawley A visited the usually solid team of Bayley E, and
took four points from the encounter, the only winner for the
Bayley side being A. Jones win over Pete Nolan.
Shifnal B at home to the first division champions, Anstice
A, played like champions them selves as they took the match
3-2.
Matt Davies opened with an impressive win over Ian Duffy
112-15 compiling breaks of 46 and 39 along the way. There
won’t be many score against Ian like that this season!
Aaron Sparkes, back in the Shifnal fold now also turned in
a good performance beating Simon Yeats 54-40.
The experienced campaigner Dave Peplow took Richard Wade
to the wire losing out on the black.
Next up, Keith Price beat Chris Petford by 58-24 setting
up a deciding match between Rob Wright and Shaun Harris.
This must have been a nail biter of a frame, and Rob will
be well pleased with his victory over Shaun by the narrowest
of margins 53-51.
Maddocks C enjoyed their first 4-1 home win at the expense
of Audco A.
Skipper Graham Hoof set the trend with a hard fought battle
against Micky Benting, gaining the frame 61-25 before the
experienced Alan Turner got the better of young Tommy Hanson
on the pink, 51-38. Tommy took a superb blue only to miscue
on the pink and let Alan in to do the business.
Jim Hill made it two nil for the iron men after he got the
better of his frustration and potted the last two colours
to beat Andy Phelan 57-46.
Old campaigners Nev Whitehead and Graham Darrall then took
stage, and it was Nev who held the upper hand. With the aid
of a twenty break Nev kept his lead to the colours and increased
it to 31, which proved to be just out of reach for Graham.
Anchorman Joe Oliver, played his usual solid game and a 31
break helped him fence off a challenge from Andy Kendrick
to give the newly promoted side four valuable points and plenty
of encouragement. Report courtesy of Nev Whitehead.
Broseley A had a couple of close frames when the Maddocks
A side visited them at Broseley.
Broseley showed the better form and ran out 4-1 winners of
this match.
Bayley A visited the stronghold of Little Dawley and played
the Little Dawley A side, and after losing to the Dawley side
4-1 find themselves sharing bottom place with Audco.
Nice to see Mike King playing with this side, and his form
was still intact has he set the Dawley side on the road to
victory by beating A. Burrows 54-16.
That concludes the report for this week. Please bear in mind
to order your tickets via the scorecards, or get in touch
with a committee member so that we can cater for attendees
to the presentation.
I mentioned this in last weeks report but it seems the local
newspapers have overlooked us!
