The Telford Snooker League, which started on Wed 14th
September this season, found itself short of two teams, both
in the third division, which will of course mean byes for
some of this seasons matches in that division.
Last seasons first division champions, Anstice A, were at
home to another of the challengers for the title last year,
Broseley A. A couple of close games in this match but Anstice
ran out 4-1 winners. Richy Wade compiled a fine 65 break in
his win over Simon McLeod, that score 77-50 to Richy Wade.
Maddocks A started in style, ending the long unbeaten run
of LDS A, by the Little Dawley side same margin, 4-1. Ian
Eldridge made a 35 clearance for Maddocks, and new signing
Tim Hicks was the only winner for the Little Dawley A side.
Shifnal A, at home in a local derby match with Shifnal B,
saw the A side take the match 3-2. Angus Way had a fine 48
break, only to see his potential win disappear, as Matt Davies
cleared the table with a 43 break, to take the frame on the
black by a single point.
New team Audco A, who are mostly made up with the ex-Wellington
Billiard Hall A side, started their campaign at home to a
very strong Anstice D side. Nigel Wallcroft had a 35 break
and missed very few balls that were on, against Alan turner
during his win.
A late recruitment to the team for Audco was Mickey Benting,
who not having picked up a snooker cue for twelve months,
turned in the performance of the evening against Paul Devey.
Paul a very capable player, saw Mickey pot a good blue which
would have left Paul needing a snooker, but unfortunately
the white ended up snookering Mickey behind the black. After
Mickey missed the snooker, Paul potted a super pink and calmly
slotted the black into the middle pocket to claim the game,
and win the match 3-2.
Dawley A were at home to the newly promoted Maddocks C who
acquitted themselves very well, although losing the match
by 3-2 to the Dawley side, Three frames to two.
Last but not least, were the second promoted team of last
season, Bayley A, who were involved in a local clash with
their Bayley E side. Although the A side were classed at home
there was no advantage to be had, and the Bayley A side lost
3-2.
In the second division, Anstice B who also went up this season,
had the home advantage whilst playing Shifnal F. The Shifnal
side fared best in the encounter, winning the match 3-2.
Bayley D, the other promoted side in the second division,
were at home in another local derby match, playing Bayley
F. The Bayley F team were too strong on this occasion, and
only Dave Dudley stopped the whitewash with a 66-34 score
line over Paul Maxfield, 4-1 to Bayley F.
Minnesota Fats G visited LDS G, and took four out of the
five frames with Wayne weeks starting the winning sequence,
and, recording a 23 break during the frame.
Meanwhile Minnesota Fats A will probably find themselves
more at home in this division, and that showed in their match,
which they won 3-2 when they were at home to Dawley Social
B.
The third division welcomed a new team into the fold this
season, as Comrades from Bridgnorth entered a side. From all
accounts the Comrades enjoyed their return to the Telford
League, and although away from home to start the season, they
beat the LDS B side 3-2. Paul Easthope from the Dawley side
made a nice 31 break in his convincing win over Chris cook
Bayley B at home to Second Club Trench B, formerly Minnesota
Fats C, lost their match 3-2. A single point in a closely
fought match decided two of the games.
Bayley Q opened their account, when they visited Shifnal
D and took four frames from the Shifnal side. Richard Tranter
had a 25 break in his match and secured the game on the black
ball. S. Chauhan for the Shifnal side won by the greatest
margin of the evening when he defeated Pete Smith by 88 to
17 points.
