TELFORD SNOOKER LEAGUE

Match Report - 5th October 2005

In the first division this week, after a reasonable start to the season, Maddocks c were brought down to earth when visitors and titleholders, Anstice a trounced them 5-0.

Anstices’ Ian Duffy went in to bat first, and was soon up to his old tricks by clocking in a 47 break. That should have been more but Ian missed a reasonable black to make it a half-century. It gave little heart to his opponent, young Tommy Hanson who went down 94-9.

Jamie Fallows followed suit when a late 31 break helped him to secure his frame against Jim Hill 65-25.

Keith price then wrapped up his win when he forced his foe, Nev Whitehead, to require a snooker on the colours which failed to materialise, and was beaten 58-22.

Usually you can rely on Joe Oliver to come up with the goods, but it was not to be as a series of missed chances gave Si Yeats the fillip to capitalise on them, and a 22 break helped him secure a fourth point winning 69-24.

New signing for the foundry men, Steve Hassock, did well considering it was his first game on home ground, but just lost out when an in off pink cost him the frame against Ritchie Wade.

In match between Dawley a and Shifnal a, the home side, Dawley a were beaten 4-1 by the Shifnal side.

Rick Bailey took the only point for Dawley in the final frame, beating Simon Biddulph 62-55; this after Simon had made a 41 break!

Little Dawley a were away to least seasons runners up Broseley a, and they too took just one point back to Dawley when Darren Pountney in a close game, overcame Graham Long 52-45.

Shifnal b at home to Bayley a, took the first three frames before S. Rowley defeated Ray Evans 54-24. That was followed up by C.M.Adams securing the second point of the evening for the Bayley side, beating D. Peplow 59-26.

Bayley e were at home to the struggling Audco side, and made the most of their opportunity to inflict a 4-1 defeat on the visitors. Andy Kendrick was the sole winner for Audco making a 46 break on his way to a comfortable 84-24 win over Dave France.

Codden b are joint leaders with Shifnal f this week although the Anstice c result didn’t appear on time for this report.

Codden, who were visiting Bayley f, showed good form when they beat the Bayley side 3-2. The decider was won by N. Pearce 54-16 against Mike Healey.

Shifnal f, at home to Dawley b, had a fine victory over the Dawley side with only Barry Roden showing any form at all, when he beat R. James 61-14.

New signing, Paul Harper, (who many of you will remember), was beaten by Chris Painter 65-41, but I’m sure Paul will be glad to be back playing in the league again.

Second club a gained their first team win, although playing away at Codden c.

Ian Ferriday opened the second clubs account. winning the first frame 55-38 against D. Bayliss, and by the fourth frame the match was won.

The last frame was a close affair with D. Holmes getting the better of N. Holmes 74-67 to gain Coddens' second point of the match.

Anstice b gained a 3-2 win over Min. Fats g in spite of being the away team. The Anstice team will be looking to win this division, and certainly have the players to do it!

In the third division Second club b drop a place in the table this week, when they were beaten 3-2 by the Little Dawley d side.

Visitors little Dawley lost the first game when Ian Clifford beat James Evans 53-32, before taking the next three frames in a row from the Trench lads. Dave Welsh hit back for the Trench side to take the last point available, recording a 56-34 win over new signing, E. Jackson

Bayley Q are having a new lease of life, and maintained their good form at home playing Newport b.

Bayley Q raced into a 3-0 lead until John Yapps win over Richie Tranter 44-18 stopped the rot.

The very capable Les Stirling then beat Steve Weatherall 68-27 to make the scoreline 3-2.

Comrades are finding their feet a little now, and although losing at home to the Bayley b side 3-2, this match was decided in the final frame with R. Bedall beating C. Crook on the black ball.
