Welcome back it was this week for a player who hasn’t
been on the scene for some time, but I’m sure the Maddocks
A team were all patting him on the back.
Maddocks, with home advantage were playing champions Anstice,
and the first frame went to the Anstice team with Ian Duffy
defeating Darren Wincott 64-35. Not the start that Maddocks
wanted but in the next game Leigh France pulled a point back
with a fine win over S. Harris scoring 63 points to Shawn’s
49. A very close frame next with Ian Skelton just losing out
to J. Fallows 62-54. Dave France then completed a family double
of the evening by getting the better of Keith Price 73-40.
So with a decider on the cards and Maddocks A being short
of playing staff, welcome back to Tom McIver, their new signing
on the evening. Not many would have guessed the outcome of
this frame, but after playing himself back into the game steadily
against Richard Wade, Tom produced two fine doubles on the
blue and pink to win the frame and the match for Maddocks
A, 3-2.
LDS A had the Audco side visit them, and in the opening frame
Darren Pountney won a scrappy game against Alan Turner on
the pink, with neither player showing much form. That score
line 51-37.
In the next frame Matt Bailey beat Graham Darrell 66-7 with
some fine potting and safety, and barely gave Graham a chance
to do much about it. Lee Elcock then beat Andy Phelan 52-11
before Tim Hicks played Mick Benting. Tim was also cueing
very well and made it 4-0 with a winning score of 53-3.
Last up for Little Dawley was Ade Henry meeting our star
player Andy Kendrick. A well contested game this with a fabulous
brown and blue from Andy to take the frame and one point for
Audco. Audco are now the only team not to have won a match
in the league so far, but watch out!
Broseley versus Dawley A.
Frame 1
This saw Carl Walker for Broseley up against the in form Sean
Nolan for Dawley. Sean played an excellent potting & safety
frame, racing into a 57-point lead including a 33 break. Carl
started to claw his way back but was no match for the Dawley
potter who went on to take the frame comfortably with a score
line of 70 points to 27. Broseley 0, Dawley 1.
Frame 2
This saw Graham Long for Broseley up against Chris Woods for
Dawley. Graham took an early 20+ lead and never looked in
trouble after that as an out of sorts Chris missed a series
of easy pots. This gave Graham chances to close the frame
out which he did with no problem, taking the frame with a
score line of 68 points to 33. Broseley 1, Dawley 1.
Frame 3
This saw the two captains come together as Simon McLeod played
Mark Jones. Simon potted well early doors and forged himself
a good lead, which never looked in danger as a poor performance
from the Dawley captain gave Simon no problems. Simon went
on to take the frame with a score line of 48 points to 3.
Broseley 2, Dawley 1.
Frame 4
This saw Mick Brezwyn for Broseley up against Grant Heighway
for Dawley. An excellent frame this from the Dawley mon who
played a superb tactical frame against a very dangerous player.
Grants potting & safety game gave Mick little chance and
he went on to make the match all square with a frame score
of 63 points to 33. Grants decision to play Division 1 snooker
this year seems to be paying dividends. Broseley 2, Dawley
2.
Frame 5
With the match standing all square the final frame saw Simon
Thomas for Broseley up against Rick Bailey for Dawley. It
was good to have Rick back in the side after his recent injury
(Dancing with the pavement after too many Brandies!!) and
he turned in a virtuoso performance against a very talented
player. Another frame, which saw superb tactical play from
the Dawley mon, saw Rick win the match for Dawley by beating
Simon 58 points to 48. Broseley 2, Dawley 3.

Shifnal A got back to winning ways with a good victory at
the Bayley club. Lindsay Knox got the ball rolling with a
comfortable victory over Chris Morgan-Adams of the Bayley
A side.
Simon Biddulph quickly made it 2-0 to Shifnal as breaks of
31 and 45 effectively won the frame in two visits, and another
easy victory for Angus Way over Spencer Rowley had Shifnal
thinking about taking all five points. Bob mason stopped the
rot however with a hard fought pink ball win over Andy Easthope.
Steve Fletcher and John Fallows then fought out a superb
frame, with both players in excellent form, but it was Steve
who won on the pink to give Bayley the last frame of the evening.
The game finished Bayley A 2 Shifnal A 3
Report courtesy of Angus Way.
Maddocks C failed to register their second win of the season
against a tough Shifnal B 2-3. A fantastic opening red from
Graham Hoof shook Matt Davies which kicked him into life,
and knocking in a 43 break sealed the frame.
Steve Hassock levelled matters with a cautious win over Rob
Wright, with Steve knocking in a 31 break to finish the frame
off. Top pool player Kev Uzzell then produced a great show
of potting and positional play, including a 59 break to beat
Jimmy Hill and put Shifnal back in front.
Chris Painter then won the match beating the young Tommy
Hampson in an entertaining frame. The final point went to
Maddocks when Joe Oliver beat Dave Peplow on a black ball
in a tight game.

Anstice D lost a little more footing this week when they played
Bayley E, who until recently were in dour form. Bayley E went
to the Anstice club and with a few points trickling back for
them in the last couple of matches, built on that by taking
four points from the match.
A O’Brien took the first game comfortably 60-7 against
D. Wilkie before Steve Hoof added a second point with an equally
impressive score line of 62-5 playing Steve Collins. Paul
Devey then lost his game with D. France to make it 3-0 for
the Bayley team, before Nigel Wallcroft pulled a game back
for Anstice by beating A. Jones 67-40.
The final frame between K Blackham and John Squires appeared
to be a black ball finish with John Squires completing a good
night for the Bayley side taking home four of the five points
to be had.
Second Division.
Anstice C edged a point further ahead of their main rivals
this week as they recorded a fine 5-0 win over the Codden
c-side. John Jones gave Anstice their first home point of
the evening 51-14 playing Matt Bothwell. The next game saw
Steve Camp trounce Sef Tusel in that frame, with Steve having
breaks of 29,27,and 24. Final score in that frame 112-23 to
Steve.
Steve’s breaks must have inspired his team mates to
get in on the act as Andy Elliot also made a 27 with his win
over Danny Weaver, 74-46, followed by a 30 break from Mike
Musgrave who beat Frazier McKinnon 73-45. Nothing was stopping
Anstice on the night as Nick Oakley secured the final point
defeating Dave Holmes 80-53.
A couple of miles away meanwhile, second place LDS G were
at Shifnal to do battle with the Shifnal F team. Captain for
Little Dawley, G. Copson opened in good style with breaks
of 25 and 27 in his encounter with D. Pye to record a score
line of 74-18.
D. Miller then took a point back for Shifnal 52-24 against
Rob Withington and game on! R. James was next up for the Shifnal
lads but couldn’t get the better of Graham Wiley who
took another point for Little Dawley. J. Briscoe didn’t
fare much better either as the next frame went to R. Levenue
and Little Dawley went 3-1 up.
Chris Painter did all he could to get the last point for
Shifnal and although not denoted on the card, that looked
like a close finish on the black, 57-50 in favour of N. Morris
from LDS G.
Due to late cards the report for this division will be a
little sparse this week.
Dawley B took on the Second Club A side at Dawley, and in
the opening game of the evening saw Gary Clements make the
start they needed by collecting the first point of the evening
with a 76-32 win over the very solid Lloyd Giles.
Ian Ferriday levelled the scores with a close win over Ian
Ward 43-32 before Ians team-mate Roger Smith put Second Club
2-1 up in a high scoring game with Kev Jones, that score line
67-55.
Barry Roden then produced a black ball finish defeating K.
Mears 49-45 to set up a decider for the match. It was the
Dawley side who finally triumphed, although not easily, as
the final score in the last frame was 53 to Alex Jones of
Dawley and 40 to K. Owen from the Second Club, giving Dawley
the 3-2 victory.
Bayley D made the short trip to Codden club where they played
against Codden B. The first frame went Coddens way, but only
just, when Steve Downs came in with a 51-41 defeat of Darren
Rhodes.
Bayley D replied with a comfortable win in the next frame
as D. Williams returned an impressive score of 57-10 over
A. Garmson. A. Jones regained the advantage for Codden by
disposing of M. Bedall 67-23. Mark Wall maintained that advantage,
and took the next frame to secure the team win and give Codden
a 3-1 lead, after a comfortable victory over J. Lewis 65-26.
Down, but not out, Dave Dudley stepped up for his Bayley
side and overcame Nick Pearce to enable the Bayley lads to
return home with two points from the match, that score line
56-14 in favour of Dave Dudley.
Division Three.
Second Club Trench v LDS B.
The previous week saw two excellent results for these sides,
a 5-0 win against Comrades for the Second Club and a 3-2 win
against their own D side for LDS B, their first win of the
season.
The first game pitched Tom Firmstone for the home side against
Pete Clarke, and in a tight game went right to the wire with
Pete sinking an excellent black to take the frame 52-48.
Paul Crooks had the job of bringing Second Club back into
the match, and he took it 69-40 against Snowy Darrock. On
three occasions during the game, Snowy needed snookers to
enable him to win the game. On each occasion after Snowy got
the desired snooker, Paul would then step up and pot the next
colour until in the end it proved too much to claw back and
the score was levelled at 1-1.
Second Club captain, Neil Robinson, beat an out of sorts
Colin Gittus 55-10 to put his sides nose in front, and then
an excellent 73-31 win for Toby Welsh against Tom Wotherspoon
made sure that the spoils went to the Second Club.
The last game was still vital for the Trench side as it was
the difference between sitting second in the table behind
Bayley Q or taking the lead outright. Mr dependable, Dave
Welsh, won a scrappy frame against Simon Evans 42-9 and the
home side were over the moon.
Second Club, well behind a couple of weeks ago, have taken
nine out of ten points recently, and with tricky matches against
Shifnal and Maddocks appearing on the horizon will no doubt
give their confidence a real boost.
Report courtesy of Neil Robinson.
Newport B suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bayley B although
having the home advantage. K. West from the Bayley won the
first point for his club over N. Simpson 50-29, before an
old friend of mine Richard Goldie took a point back for Newport
with a 43-30 win over Dan Oliver.
D. Davies lost to S. Morgan-Adams, as did John Yapp to R.
Bedall, those results giving the Bayley side a 3-1 lead. The
last frame looked like a corker with a score line of 69-62
on the card, and the final frame going to Newport via Les
Stirling in his game with D. Oliver.
LDS D and Shifnal D, at different ends of the table, had
Shifnal visiting little Dawley where the opening frame was
won for the Dawley side with S. Jackson triumphing over T.
Askew. R. Jackson, second up for LDS then lost to S. Chauhan
58-33.
The next two games gave the Shifnal side a 3-1 lead with
J. Evans of LDS losing out to P. Wharton, and Wayne Timmings
also losing to Arthur Aston. Some solace was gained however
in the last game of the evening when Chris Niblett notched
up a 60-29 win over George Nelson.
My thanks to all the players who contributed to the reports,
please keep them coming.
