It's a funny old game, and after reporting on the success
of Comrade’s victory last week, that is where I start
my report this week, in the third division.
Comrades who had a wonderful victory last week of 5-0 came
back to earth with a bump in the third division this week,
and found themselves on the end of a 5-0 beating from the
Second Club B team. The closest game in the match came courtesy
of M. Wordesell who lost 35-33 to Neil Robinson, but that
was the nearest that comrades came to a point.
Albeit, Comrades due to games played are now in third spot
in this division, with the Second club having played two matches
less, who are in second spot.
Shifnal D were at home to the Hadley A side, but didn’t
have things their own way as the Hadley side managed to take
two points from this match. Although the match was won by
the fourth frame, Ian Atkinson took the last and second point
of the evening for Hadley by beating Ivor Peplow 53-22.
Local derby between LDS B and LDS D, ended with victory for
the b-side who were classed as the home team, and who came
out winning that match 3-2. Chris Niblett narrowly missed
taking the match to a decider for his team, LDS D, when he
lost by the narrowest of margins 55-54 to C. Gittus.
Maddocks B were at home to Newport B, with Maddocks opening
well when Wally Harper gained the first point, beating R.
Davies 52-41. John Archer then built on that start to make
it 2-0 to Maddocks defeating Richard Goldie 74-47.
The tide then started to turn as Les Hicks lost to N. Simpson
65-37, followed by team mate Doug Morrey, likewise losing
out to John Yapp 63-32. That left Nigel White playing the
decider against Les Stirling who has only dropped two frames
so far this season in the league. That good form for Les continued
as he went on to take the frame and match for Newport with
a score line of 61-32 over Nigel.
Second division.
Anstice C current leaders of the division, were at home to
Bayley F and things didn’t go to well at the outset
of this match for Anstice, when John Jones lost the first
game to Az Khan from the Bayley, 65-52. Young Tom Maxfield
notched up the second frame beating Steve Camp 62-57.
Mike Musgrave then started a comeback with a comfortable
67-13 win over Chris Shaw, before Andy Elliot took the second
frame for Anstice C, narrowly defeating Paul Maxfield 43-41.
The decider and final frame saw Nick Oakley produce a good
performance beating Eddie Whitehead 60-27 and putting together
a break of 41 in doing so. 3-2 to Anstice C.
Dawley B visited second placed LDS G and in spite of taking
two points from LDS G they are still holding up the division.
Codden C were at home to Anstice B, who surprisingly are
nearer the bottom of the table than most would have thought.
This match fared well for the Anstice team at the start when
Noel Stones beat Danny Weaver 66-32 to gain the first point
for Ans-b. Next up saw John Darrock with a win over Frazier
McKinnon 62-54.
So, two points up and yet another revival as Matt Bothwell
got the better of Stew Wimbush 56-18, with campaigner Sef
Tusel then defeating George Hammond 66-39. Codden then won
the decider with Dave Holmes winning the last frame 60-32
over Billy Watson.
Minnesota G had the home advantage with Shifnal F, but that
seemed to count for nothing as the Shifnal side gained a 4-1
win to move themselves into fourth spot in the division. There
appeared to be two black ball games in this match, although
sometimes the report may be misleading when not marked on
the card.
Bayley D entertained Minnesota Fats A who are much more at
ease in this division. This match also had a few close games,
and although the Bayley lads lost the match 4-1, highlight
of the evening for the Bayley side would have been Darren
Rhodes performance as he beat Mick Egan by 70-19 recording
a 42 break on the way.
First division.
Broseley A maintained their lead at the top of division 1
with an emphatic win over the Maddocks C team. Carl Walker
did enough to get past the young Tommy Hampson 62-27 then
Graham Longs superb potting got the better of Jimmy Hill after
a tactical battle to make it 2-0. Billy Rushton lost out to
some excellent skill from Simon McLeod to seal the match.
Mick Brezwyn played a great frame leaving Joe Oliver no chance,
Simon Thomas then hit a superb 66 break to complete the rout
and take 5 points from the meeting leaving the Maddocks team
in danger of the drop.

Lee Elcock played his best game this season to open LDS account
away to Dawley A and make it 1-0. With the two teams tied
in the league on the same points, a big win for either team
would prove a big boost to any title aspirations. Darren Pountney
then made it 2-0 to LDS beating Mark Jones comfortably, and
with Tim Hicks following this up with a fine performance against
Pete Nolan, this ensured the spoils in this local derby went
the way of LDS.
Any chance of all 5 points were dashed in the next when Grant
Heighway potted well against Jesse Lowe to win on the black
and register Dawley's only frame as Ade Henry wrapped things
up in the last for LDS and confirm a 4-1 win with a solid
performance against Chris Woods.

Anstice A with an indifferent start to the season were playing
at the Bayley club where they managed to win 4-1. Unfortunately
the Bayley E side, their hosts, could only provide four players,
and their first player, Steve Hoof got the one and only point
for the Bayley side, beating K. Price 67-48.
S. Harris then replied for Anstice 60-27 against A. Jones
before J. Fallows added their second point 69-43 over John
Squires. A most convincing win arrived in the form of Ian
Duffy’s win over Dave France 112-1 before the last frame
was awarded to Anstice A.
Anstice D were at home to the Shifnal B, team but even with
home advantage lost the match 3-2 to Shifnal. Anstice D now
find themselves slipping a little in this division, as their
form seems to have dipped a little.
Not much between Shifnal A and Maddocks A in the table and
that proved to be the same in the match. Shifnal A with home
advantage lost the first frame when Daz Wincott, who was cueing
beautifully when I last saw him play, beat Lindsay Knox 52-19.
John Fallows then took a point for Shifnal by beating Ian
Eldridge 66-43.
Andy Easthope conceded another point to Maddocks losing to
Phil Davis 54-30 before Simon Biddulph set up a decider by
beating Dave France 63-56. In the final frame Ian Skelton
won a close match against Angus Way 56-43. The result was
3-2 to Maddocks.
In the relegation battle newly promoted Bayley A visited
Audco A. Audco, who are drifting away from safety in the first
division now look to be on a raft race away from it, as the
Bayley club took four points from the encounter.
Highlight of this match was a top class game between Steve
Fletcher and Graham Darrell, a pleasure to watch, with Steve
coming out the victor 75-61. Only winner yet again was Andy
Kendrick’s who beat Bob Mason 60-37.
