Division two leaders, Anstice C now look almost certain
to win the second division title, after visiting Dawley B
and returning home with four of the five points on offer.
John Jones got the team off with the start they wanted beating
Gary Clements in a high scoring game, 73-58. The new signing
for Dawley B this season, Paul Harper was comprehensively
beaten 63 –2 by Steve Camp, and with Paul’s talent,
what a victory that was for Steve!
Andy Elliot rattled up one hundred points in his frame against
Kev Jones to put the Anstice three up, and Barry Roden, playing
well of late, also lost his frame to Mike Musgrave by 58-44.
In the last frame the Dawley side salvaged one point when
Alex Jones beat Nick Oakley 72-30.
Bayley F haven’t given up the chase yet, and they too,
although playing away from home to Shifnal F managed a 3-2
victory.
Two most convincing wins of the evening came from Tom Maxfield
of the Bayley scoring 70 points to Fred Harpers 1, and then
Ritchie Hulme also with 70 points beating J. Briscoe, 70-5.
Codden C lost some ground with this weeks result, and the
following report was kindly sent in by Dave Dudley.
The night started a little late, but this did not affect
Jim Lewis from taking the first frame for the Bayley D, 61-13
against Daniel Ballard, who could not quite find the form
he was showing in practice before the match.
Craig Whitehead wasted no time in making it 2-0 against Matt
Bothwell by a convincing 65-23.
The Third frame which saw the two captains drawn out against
each other, was inevitably going to go down to the wire, and
in a very close game throughout eventually saw Ray Whitehead,
who had very little run all-night jaw the pink. Dave Dudley
then potted pink and black to snatch the frame 69-60.
Dave Williams put in a good performance against F. McKinnon
winning by 65-47. This game albeit was slightly tainted by
a comment to the home referee that he was not being entirely
honest when awarding a free ball! The situation that arose
did not bear any significance to the game as no advantage
was gained anyway.
Coddon’s Dave Holmes saved the whitewash with a good
display against Mark Beddall defeating Mark by 75-23.
Minnesota Fats A will be pleased with their 3-2 win over
the Little Dawley G side, but although the Dawley side were
playing away, they will probably be surprised that the two
points gained now take them into third spot, just one point
ahead of Codden C.
Codden B with the home advantage, lost 3-2 to Minnesota Fats
G and both of these teams are clear of the relegation places
at the moment!
Anstice B were at home to the Second Club Trench and weren’t
able to do themselves any favours in the relegation stakes
as they lost 4-1 to the Second club.
Not quite as convincing a win as the result would have you
believe, as Mick Cahill for Anstice lost 80-66, which suggests
Mick may have been able to make the game go to a re-spotted
black? George Hammond also lost 51-49 to Lloyd Giles, and
Noel Stones was the only winner for Anstice with a score line
of 71-4 over Keith Mears.
Division One
Broseley still remain in the driving seat this week after
a 3-2 victory over the Shifnal B side.
Graham Long continued his good form giving the home side
their first point of the evening beating Chris Petford 75-37.
Carl Walker then came up against Matt Davies who pulled one
back for the Shifnal side with a 61-37 result in Shifnals
favour.
S. Thomas won a close encounter with Aaron Sparkes 49-43
to put Broseley 2-1 ahead. Mick Brezwyn having only lost three
frames all season increased Broseleys lead with a 60-36 win
over Rob Wright, who has also showed some good form this season.
In the last game Dave Peplow for Shifnal gained a cracking
win over Simon McLeod in a high scoring game and that score
line, 70-53 to Dave.
Anstice A played at home to the Audco A side, and this match
must have surely sealed the fate of Audco, as all five points
went to the Anstice side. Best winner of the night was Simon
Yeates who gave a flawless display of snooker against the
luckless Andy Phelan.
Little Dawley A continue their battle for second spot, and
the next report was kindly sent in by Darren Pountney, and
may I once again thank those who take the trouble to send
the reports in.
Matt Bailey got things rolling for Little Dawley with an
impressive display against Steve Collins to put them 1-0 up.
Paul Devey then replied in quick fire fashion, with a great
47 break in his second visit to the table against Darren Pountney
to level things.
Lee Buttery then returned back to the team with an excellent
display against Darren Wilkie to put Little Dawley back in
the driving seat, and this was quickly followed by Lee Elcock
winning a scrappy encounter against the in-form Nigel Wallcroft
to put the match out of reach for the Anstice.
Ade Henry finished things off for Little Dawley with a fine
win against an out of sorts Keith Blackham to make the overall
score Little Dawley 4 Anstice D 1, keeping an outside chance
of second still a possibility.
Maddocks A remain in fourth position with a 3-2 win at home
to Dawley A. There were two high scoring victories in this
match with a 38 break from Ian Eldridge in his 92-24 win over
Pete Nolan, but that was topped by a superb 69 break for Ian
Skelton against Mark Jones, that score 83-7.
Shifnal A threw the Bayley E side straight back into the
relegation battle after inflicting a 5-0 win over the Bayley
side playing at Shifnal. Closest chance of winning a frame
for the Bayley side came courtesy of Steve Hoof who just lost
out to Lindsay Knox 62-56.
Angus Way recorded a 44 break in his 70-12 win with A. Jones,
and then in the last frame Simon Biddulph who has played quite
well this season, (for a part timer) knocked in a 39 break
against John Squires.
The next report sent in by Jim hill will give both his and
the Bayley A team an extra glimmer of hope in the relegation
stakes.
Here's the result from the big relegation battle between
Bayley A and Maddocks C.
Bayley A managed to secure a vital win against Maddocks C
in the battle to (probably) join Audco, in the 2nd division.
Chris Morgan-Adams started out in great form beating the
visiting skipper Graham Hoof with a well-conducted 60 break
to put Bayley ahead. Arthur Burrows then played some great
snooker to be pipped on the blue by Jimmy Hill to level the
scores.
Another great performance of the night came from Steve “Baby
face” Hassack who, after a bout of the “Bug going
around”, managed to beat Bob Mason with some splendid
potting to put the Ironmen ahead.
Next up was “Marks n” Spencer Rowley against
“Bouncer” Billy Rushton. It turned out to be a
great game that flowed one way then the other. Firstly the
home player got a good lead, but the big man came back strong
and a tense finish was what the crowd got. Billy eventually
falling to a good pink from Spencer.
In the decider there was a crowd pleaser when Steve “should’ve
gone to specsavers” Fletcher played Joe Oliver. Steve
started with a couple of great breaks of 35 and 20 to (seemingly)
put the game to bed. Joe then managed to pull the scores back
only to, unluckily, go in off on the green. Steve then managed
to win the game for the home side by potting the pink.
This result leaves a tense finish to see who can manage to
play with the elite next year.
Division Three
Just two cards in this week for this division so the report
will be sparse!
Bayley B, although losing 3-2 at home to Shifnal D, go top
of the division due to byes and missing results.
The first three games went to Shifnal when Terrie Askew got
the better of Kevin West in the opening frame 63-38, followed
by Sanjay Chauhan comprehensive win 74-15 over C. Haycox.
Peter Wharton took the third frame narrowly beating Dan Oliver
60-53 before R. Bedall stopped the rot in the fourth frame
by defeating Geoff French 67-17. In the last game of the evening
Dick Oliver comfortably beat Barrie Easthope 87-23 to take
the second point for the Bayley side.
Little Dawley B gave themselves a good boost this week when
they visited Newport British Legion, and Simon Evans got the
Little Dawley side off to the first win with a sound victory
over Allan Davies 57-8.
Next up Richard Goldie for Newport gave a good account of
himself but lost out to Pete Clarke 64-44 and give the Dawley
side their second point of the evening. In a low scoring game
Colin Gittus kept up the good work by beating John Yapp 38-29.
Another close game followed when Nigel Simpson for the legion
fell to Tom Wotherspoon 51-41. In the last frame one of the
hardest players to beat in this division, Les Stirling knocked
in a good 41 break and went on to a comfortable win against
Snowy Darrock, 74-3.
