Lets start in the third division this week where Maddocks
B, (who recently disposed of first division Audco A in the
cup) met Bayley Q who are doing so well in this division.
The Bayley side made the short trip to Maddocks, and found
the home side buzzing.
Although there were several close games, Chris Fletcher was
the only player from the Bayley Q side to lift a point, with
Rob Cook, Richard Tranter, Steve Wetherall, and Chris Durham
all losing their games (three of them on the black), leaving
them with their biggest defeat of the season as the Maddocks
B side won the match 4-1. Bayley Q remain in second spot,
although the byes give false impressions until all the games
get played!
Second Club Trench visited the Newport British Legion, and
although they were beaten 3-2 the Second Club remain firmly
in top spot.
Hadley A were at home to the LDS D side where the Dawley
side comfortably disposed of the Hadley lads 4-1. Kevin Whitehead
did give the Hadley boys a good start with a 33 break, and
the first point to Hadley when he beat W. Timmins 74-7, but
that was their only point of the match.
Comrades A visited the War Memorial club where they played
against the Shifnal D side. The journey was well worthwhile
as the Comrades won this match 3-2 with S. Jones for the Comrades
winning the deciding frame 56-26 against Ivor Peplow.
Division Two
Anstice C look to have this division title in the bag if
they keep up their present form. Although away from home to
play the Bayley D side, they continued their good run with
a 3-2 victory over the Bayley side with Nick Oakley winning
the deciding frame against Brian Aberdeen.
Bayley F are still chasing the leaders, and returned the
same result beating the Anstice B side 3-2 at the Anstice
club.
LDS G, just one point behind the Bayley F side are also keeping
the pressure on, and they were at home to the Codden C side
where they won the match 3-2.
Minnesota Fats A, who are very comfortable in this division
after being thrown in the deep end last season, were at home
to Shifnal F. This was a tough game for the Minnesota lads
and they only managed to take one point from the encounter
as the Shifnal side ran out 4-1 winners.
The other Minnesota team, Minnesota Fats G made the short
trip to the Second Club Trench where they played Second Club
A. Only one point between the Minnesota teams, and on this
occasion the Minnesota team took this match 3-2 against Second
Club A.
Dawley B, who unfortunately were docked two points earlier
in the season, are finding it difficult to haul themselves
back up the table, and in spite of a good 3-2 win over the
Codden B side, at the Codden remain, at the bottom of the
division.
However, with these sort of displays, and quite a few games
to go, who knows?
Division One
Broseley A look to be heading for their first division one
title, as they secured four good points from one time challengers,
Maddocks A at the Broseley club.
Darren Wincott, suffering with the flu, lost a close game
with Carl Walker to give Broseley their first point. Graham
Long played very well to beat young Ian Eldridge, although
Ian’s performance was better than in recent matches,
before Ian Skelton pulled one back for Maddocks by defeating
Simon McLeod.
Dave France then came up against Mick Brezwyn who’s
safety was very good, and Mick won this game to make it 3-1.
In the last game Leigh France got in first against Simon Thomas,
but Simon potted a superb red to gain a break of 37 and just
pip Leigh by 60 points to 57.
Anstice A suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Shifnal
B side although they had the home advantage, and this result
will give heart to the LDS A side, who creep a little closer
to the Anstice side, currently in second spot.
Little Dawley A visited the John Bayley club, and the Bayley
A side managed to take two points form the encounter with
Spencer Rowley beating Lee Elcock and C.M. Adams beating Lee
Buttery.
Shifnal A 3 Anstice D 2
John Fallows got the match under way against Paul
Devey. After a cagey opening, followed by a few unfortunate
in-off’s for Paul, John Fallows ran out an easy winner.
Next up saw Neil Price continuing his rehabilitation by taking
on Steve Collins. Despite cueing well, Neil is still far from
his best, but this should take nothing from Steve who scored
with every chance to take a comfortable win.
Lindsay Knox then restored Shifnal’s lead, having trailed
for most of the frame; he cleared the last four colours for
a hard fought win over Darren Wilkie.
But after four frames the match was level again, as Nigel
Wallcroft kept up his impressive average this season with
another hard fought victory over Andy Easthope.
Angus Way and Keith Blackham played out the decider, and
after the early exchanges Keith was looking the more likely
winner. However after an easy missed red chance to the yellow
pocket, Keith wasn’t to get another scoring opportunity
as Angus came from behind to run out a comfortable winner
and wrap up the match for Shifnal.
As a footnote, congratulations this week to Simon Thomas.
The Broseley potter, playing for Woodfield in the Staffs and
West Mids league last Thursday, knocked in a superb break
of 115. Although not in our league, it’s still a notable
achievement from one of our regular players. Well done Simon.

In the relegation stakes this week, Audco actually won their
first match of the season at home to the Maddocks C side.
It could be very close for the three teams above Audco, but
with last weeks result between Bayley E and Bayley A still
not in, there is no clear indication of the positions, except
to say it is probably too late for the Audco side to recover
being some six points adrift now!
Mid table Dawley a were at home to the Bayley E side and
that match returned a result of 3-2 to the Bayley E side.
Only one email report this week, keep them coming lads!
