In the LDS A home game against Maddocks A, Lee Elcock
turned in an expressive performance to easily beat Darren
Wincott, 1-0. Lee Buttery then won his first match of the
season with an even better win against Ian Eldridge, making
it 2-0. Ironically Lee had some weight added to his cue 2
hours before the match, and what a difference it has made.
Jesse won the match of the grinders against Dave France to
make it 3-0 for the Little Dawley side. Maddocks did show
some resilience when Leigh France was in impressive form against
Matt Bailey to make it 3-1.
Darren Pountney, currently with his cue away for repair in
London, then happened to borrow Matt Bailey's cue and coolly
dispose of Ian Skelton to make it 4-1 to the Little Dawley
Men in one of his best performances of the season. All players
were in scintillating form.

With Anstice A and Broseleys result not in this week, the
Little Dawley side result may indeed put them in a good position,
as the two afore mentioned have played against each other
this week.
Shifnal B, at home in their local derby match saw the B-side
off to a flyer with Matt Davies having breaks of 43 and 38
and John Fallows recording a 39. Next up, Arran Sparkes beat
Lindsay Knox comfortably 63-13 before K. Uzzel made it three
for the B team beating N. Price 53-16.
Rob Wright then added the fourth point of the evening by
narrowly defeating Andy Easthope 55-45, and Dave Peplow, also
for the B team, nearly made it a clean sweep for the Shifnal
side but Simon Biddulph rescued a point for his side on a
respotted black.
A New Year brought a hard fought win for Maddocks C against
Dawley A. Skipper Graham Hoof opened for the Ironmen only
to be well beaten by some great potting by Sean Nolan, including
a nice break of 25 to finish off the frame.
Chris Woods then tried to extend the lead, but lost out when,
after a long, long frame, he missed the blue to let the “boy”
Tommy Hampson steal the frame 45-33.
Next up was Steve Hassock who commented on his best ever
“19” break to beat Pete Nolan and put the home
side ahead. Grant Heighway then put down his cider, and polished
off a seesaw game against Jim Hill 37-57 to set up the decider.
Once again, as it’s been over the last few years, Joe
Oliver came up against Rick Bailey to settle the match. The
home man produced probably the best game he has played this
season to take the points for Maddocks C, winning well to
give them hope of staying with the “elite” next
season.
Report from Jimmy Hill.
Last match to report in the first division this week is Audco’s
visit to Anstice where they played the “D” side.
No surprises in this match as Audco went down to the Anstice
4-1, which leaves them well stranded, and still without a
match win yet! Highlight of the evening was Mickey Bentines
narrow win over D. Wilkie to record his first win.
Division Two
This week saw the division leaders increase their lead over
the rest when the Second Club Trench visited Anstice C. Although
Ian Ferriday took the first point for the Second Club by beating
John Jones, that was to be their only point of the evening
as the Anstice went on to take the next four frames to increase
their lead to eight points.
Bayley F played in a local derby match against their “D”
side and gained a 3-2 victory, which gives them a five point
lead over third placed LDS G, although that score card has
not arrived at the time of this report.
Highlight of this match was Ritchie Hulmes two nice breaks
during his frame with Mark Bedall of 46 and 33 to win the
frame 91-8.
Shifnal F having the home advantage got the better of Anstice
B 3-2 who, in spite of an experienced side look to be struggling
a little after their promotion this season.
Dawley B at home to Minnesota Fats A only managed to take
one point from the visiting side, and that was by courtesy
of new signing Paul Harper who recorded a 69 break in his
match with Mick Egan, that score line, 76-5.
Division Three
Tom Firmstone got the division three leaders, Second Club
Trench B, off to a good start with a comfortable 52-31 win
over C. Haycox.
Kev McLeod by his own admission played his best game of the
season to beat Paul Crooks 63-19, which included a fluent
32 break. A topsy-turvy game between Toby Welsh and Dan Oliver
saw Toby pull away on the colours, to win 60-39.
Neil Robinson and Dickie Beddall then played a quick but
low scoring game which Neil won 38-30.
Bayley's Dick Oliver then beat Dave Welsh 58-38 with his
best frame of the year to leave the home side with a deserved
but hard fought 3-2 win.
Report courtesy of Neil Robinson.
Comrades A took a little battering from LDS B who made the
trip to Bridgenorth this week. LDS looked on for a clean sweep
until Richard Davies managed to take the last frame for comrades
by beating Snowy Darrock 67-33. Final score, 4-1 to LDS B.
The last game to report this week saw LDS D beating the Newport
Legion 3-2 which leaves them both in the middle of the table
on equal points. A good win for S. Jackson in this match when
he came up against the very useful Les Stirling and returned
a winning score line of 81 –36.
Thanks to everyone who sent e-mail reports this week, as not
many cards arrived in time for this report. They are always
welcome and give a better insight into the matches played.
Happy New Year to you all.
