As all the cards are already in for the first division
this week, that is where I will start my report again.
Broseley came down to the Little Dawley club as prospective
champions and here is the report sent in courtesy of Darren
Pountney.
Broseley came to Little Dawley knowing that any type of win
would surely wrap the league title up for this season, and
with the Little Dawley outfit fighting to regain second spot
outright, they also knew that nothing more than a heavy win
would suffice to catch Anstice A on the run-in.
Broseley came out of the traps flying with Graham Long in
exceptional form against Ade Henry. With Ade Henry playing
for the first time in 2006, he could not have done much about
an inspired Graham, on his way to victory knocking in a fine
46 break, 1-0 to Broseley, 84 points to 7.
Simon McLeod was on the verge of making it 2-0, until a
slack safety shot with one red left allowed Lee Elcock back
into the frame. Lee duly obliged to clear to the pink and
level things at 1-1, 50 points to 39, this proving to be a
massive turning point in the match.
Darren Pountney then stepped up against Carl Walker and it
was nip and tuck until again 1 red out, when Darren took a
valuable 33 break to put the frame out of reach and make it
2-1 to Little Dawley, 63 points to 31.
Mick Brezwyn looked in control for much of the frame against
Jesse Lowe, but with the competitive spirit Jesse has, he
never gave up, and produced some excellent form near the closing
stages of the frame to defeat Mick, 65 points to 45 and win
the match for Little Dawley. Matt Bailey then took on the
in form Simon Thomas and duly disposed of him, 63 points to
28 to make it a superb 4-1 to the Little Dawley men.
Although the Little Dawley team played so well unfortunately
for them, Anstice A at home to Maddocks C recorded the same
result of 4-1 against the newly promoted Maddocks C team.
Anstice A managed a fine 4-1 win against the struggling Maddocks
C team and with the shock result of Broseley losing heavily,
the league although, highly unlikely could still be up for
grabs.
Anstice started well with Keith Price taking the opener by
63-27 against Graham “skip” Hoof despite a good
effort from the iron men captain. Simon Yeats then made it
two nil by beating an out of sorts Steve Hassack 51-14 with
both men having chances.
Any thought of a 2nd whitewash of the season were shelved
after Jim Hill managed to get control of the balls and pot
his way to a 72-32 win against Sean Harris. Jamie Fallows
made sure of the match with a solid display against Billy
Rushton to make it 3-1.
In the final frame Ian Duffy had an entertaining game with
Joe Oliver. The home man looked to be on his way to a good
break when he ran out of position, this let Joe keep within
touching distance with some good potting. Joe, needing a snooker
on the brown, played a great shot to put Ian in big trouble,
only to watch the brown run and drop in. Joe failed to recover
and lost out 69-37.

Maddocks A, although winning their match 3-2 over the Anstice
D team made no headway towards second spot, and disappointingly,
Maddocks last player had no game due to Anstice not fielding
a last player.
This situation will need to be looked at a little more seriously
next season as we seem to be having quite a few matches with
players short this season!
After a poor result last week Shifnal B returned to winning
ways with a 4-1 result over the Bayley A side, another match
with a player short! Highlight of this match was a super break
of 51 from Steve Fletcher and a convincing win over Rob Wright
of 109-8. Chris Morgan Adams had a good frame against Matt
Davies but just lost out 61-48 in the end.
That win for Shifnal B now takes them above their Shifnal
A side as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat when they played at
home to Dawley Social A. Simon Biddulph, who incidentally
doesn’t play every week, was the only player to capture
a point for the Shifnal A side, and this against the very
experienced Rick Bailey.
Last but not least, the almost doomed Audco A came up against
Bayley E.
Andy Phelan gained his first win of the season against John
Squires, albeit a fluke on the final pink in a very entertaining
game and Graham Darrell was cueing “like an old pro”
to record a fine win of 74-10 against Andy O’Brien.
The match went to a decider, where our superstar player, Andy
Kendricks beat Dave France 64-16.
Lets hope there aren’t to many transfer bids coming
in for him at the end of the season!
Second Division
The leaders of the second division, Anstice C were away to
Minnesota Fats A and came away with three points. The match
went to a decider and saw Nick Oakley play Kirk Stevenson,
Nick produced a 41 break and a comfortable win of 89-14. With
Just six games left, Anstice look to be claiming the second
division championship whatever happens.
Bayley F, still producing good results came up with a good
4-1 win over Codden B even though playing away. Tom Maxfield
started the ball rolling beating A. Jones 55-40 and compiling
a 36 break during the proceeds. Only Steve Downes from the
Codden side showed any form when he beat young Toms’
dad Paul, 76-34.
Meanwhile, Anstice B, although with some experienced players
from the first division, seem to be struggling to find their
feet after gaining promotion last season. Although they managed
a 3-2 win over fellow relegation battlers, Minnesota Fats
G, Anstice are still two points adrift of them, and have it
all to do.
Little Dawley G, in third spot last week visited the Bayley
D side and the following report is courtesy of Dave Dudley.
R Levenue had a 21 break in the middle of the first frame,
but this was not enough to prevent Dave Dudley from taking
the frame on the pink.
Dave Dudley 52 R Levenue 43
Neil Morris then levelled the scores in the second frame
with a comfortable win against Darren Rhodes.
Daz Rhodes 27 Neil Morris 71
Jim Lewis displayed the game was not just about break building,
and with his experience he managed to defeat Graham Wiley.
Jim Lewis 52 Graham Wiley 15
Mark Beddall showed the kind of form he is capable of against
Graham Copson and he took both pink and black to win the match
for Bayley D
Mark Beddall 43 Graham Copson 34
Craig Whitehead rounded up a great evening for the Wellington
team by beating Rob Withington with two great pots on the
blue and pink
Craig Whithead 60 Rob Withington 41
Codden C move one point ahead of LDS G into third place as
they inflicted a 4-1 defeat to the Second Club Trench A side.
L Giles was the only winner for the Trench club beating Ray
Whitehead 66-30.
Dawley B gave a good account of themselves when they were
at home to Shifnal F, one of the top teams at present. Dawley
B returned a score line of 4-1 seriously denting Shifnals
challenge to the leaders. In fact their only point of the
match came in the last frame when Chris Painter just managed
to beat Barry Roden, our sponsor, 44-36.
Third Division
With no result in from Second Club Trench B side it still
leaves the Second Club at the top of division three.
Second place Bayley B whitewashed the Comrades at the Bayley
club 5-0. Comrades did have three black ball finishes according
to the scorecard, but this result keeps the Bayley B side
in second spot.
Newport move up a few places in spite of losing their home
match 3-2 to the Bayley Q side. Bayley Q are just one point
behind their fellow Bayley players and all top three teams
are in with a shout for the title.
John Yapp started well for Newport winning the first game
against Pete Smith, but then Newport lost the next three frames
as Chris Durham, Chris Bates, and Rob Cook took Bayley three-one
up. Les Stirling took the last frame against Richard Tranter
to record a 3-2 win for the Bayley team.
Maddocks B are staying in contention with the leaders, but
could only manage a 3-2 win over LDS B this week. The match
was all level after four frames but thanks to Martin Colley
who managed to beat Snowy Darrock 57-41, Maddocks secured
the match.
