The first division is once again shaping like a three
horse race with Broseley still leading the field this week
after getting the upper hand over Shifnal A.
Carl Walker, with home advantage, suffered probably his worse
loss of the season when John Fallows thumped him 76-9 in the
opening frame. Graham Long then had the same success for Broseley
defeating Lindsay Knox 70-13.
Reserve, Rod Schweika, playing his second game of the season,
then put up a good show against Angus Way, but just lost out
54-47. The steady Mick Brezwyn levelled the match when he
beat Andy Easthope 47-18 to set up the decider.
The last game saw Simon McLeod take it for Broseley enjoying
a 40 break on his way to victory over Simon Biddulph, 81-38.
Little Dawley A entertained champions Anstice A, and although
Lee Elcock for the home side took the first frame against
Simon Yeats 59-17, that was the only point for the Little
Dawley side as they slipped to a 4-1 defeat.
Third team in the title race, Maddocks B visited the Bayley
A side where they came away with three out of the five points.
Chris Morgan Adams and Steve Fletcher were the winners for
the home side with Ian Skelton and Darren Wincott winning
for Maddocks. Unfortunately this match was decided in Maddocks
favour, when the Bayley side had no fifth player.
Anstice D maintain a three-point lead over Bayley E after
a fine 4-1 win over Dawley A. The away side, Dawley, notched
up the first point with Sean Nolan beating D. Wilkie 50-22,
but although a couple of close games followed, Anstice D showed
some of their early season form to make it a 4-1 victory.
Bayley E came away from Maddocks C with an emphatic 4-1 win
to ease there relegation worries and put the “Ironmen”
closer to the trap door.
First up for the Bayley was Andy O’Brien who started
with a 24 break to put Dave “Allied carpet” Thomas
on the back foot. Dave, playing only his second time due to
the amount of holidays he has, then made a game of it losing
on the brown ball.
Next was the “Battle of the Hoofs” (sounds like
a horse race!) Steve for the Wellington side showed some great
potting to beat Graham 75-37 in an entertaining frame. Young
Billy Rushton then tried to save the match for Maddocks only
for a great break of 43 by Ali Jones to dash his teams’
hopes.
Jimmy Hill then managed to put a frame on the board for the
Oakengates side with two mid twenty breaks against Dave "Chippy"
France to win 58-28.
"Run of the balls" was an understatement when John
Squire had his lotto numbers come up when he beat Joe Oliver
71-36, but as we all know…it’s anybodies game
on a one frame match.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all from the Maddocks
C team.
Report courtesy of Jimmy Hill.
Thanks to Jim for that report but if he thinks he has relegation
worries he hasn’t looked at Audco’s plight!
Audco visited the Shifnal B side with hopes of scraping a
few points together, but alas only came away with one when
our “Secret weapon” won once again. Andy Kendrick
just beat Rob Wright in a very entertaining game for Audco’s
solitary point.
Anstice C were at home to LDS G in the second division this
week, and the table toppers gained a 3-2 win over their main
rivals in this top of the table clash.
John Jones for Anstice narrowly lost to Rob Whithington in
a high scoring game 53-51 before Steve Camp replied for Anstice
with a 61-34 score line over G. Wiley.
LDS G then took the lead courtesy of Graham Copsons comfortable
win over Andy Elliot 68-17. Mike Musgrave then ran out an
easy winner for Anstice beating N. Morris 60-13. Nick Oakley
won the decider for Anstice by defeating R. Levenue 61-45.
Codden B, although at home lost their match 3-2 to Minnesota
Fats A, but still move into joint third spot.
Codden B’s team mates, Codden C, share joint third
place although they suffered a 3-2 defeat when they played
at Minnesota Fats against the G team.
Wayne weeks for Min G rattled up a cricket score in his match
with R. Whitehead with two 24 breaks on the way, score, 106-10
to Wayne. F. Mackinnion managed a 25 break in the last frame
of the evening when he beat Tony Marsh 61-34, and taking a
second point for Codden C.
The positions may change somewhat when the Bayley F match
card arrives!
Dawley B had a fine result against Anstice B beating them
3-2 at Dawley. They will need a few more results like this
to ensure their survival in the division.
With two match cards missing that is all I can report for
the second division.
The third division have now all played the same amount of
games and it leaves the Second Club Trench in pole position.
The Second club were visited by Maddocks B who saw Wally
Harper beat Tom Firmstone in a very close game 53-51 to give
Maddocks the opening frame. Equally close in the next frame,
but with the point going to the Second club this time, with
Paul Crooks just getting the better of Doug Morrey 48-45.
The next two games saw Bob Lane and Toby Welsh win comfortably
for Second club and secure the match, but Martin Colley made
sure of a second point for Maddocks with a score line of 65-27
playing Neil Robinson.
Bayley Q, just one point behind the Second club, keep the
pressure on by beating bottom of the table LDS B, 3-2.
Although taking the first two games courtesy of Chris Durham
and Chris Fletcher, the Bayley side had to wait until the
final frame to secure victory, and this they did when Steven
Weatherall produced the goods defeating S. Evans 58-22.
Hadley A suffered a 3-2 defeat when Newport Legion visited
them.
Iain Atkinson took one point for the Hadley side with his
team mate Kevin Whitehead beating Richard Goldie for the second
point, and making a break of 37 on the way to a 70-28 score
line.
So that’s it until after Christmas when my reports
will resume.
Merry Christmas to you all.
