Shifnal A 5 Broseley A 0
Congratulations go to Broseley A this season for taking the
league honours, but they finished on a low as Shifnal A buried
all 5 frames past them. The match was played in great spirit,
but Broseley had no answer to Shifnal’s supremacy on
the night. First frame saw two of the players of the season
meet with John Fallows taking on Simon Thomas and John got
the better of the early exchanges, and an excellent 50 break
allowed him to run out an easy 86-12 winner. Next up for Shifnal
was Neil Price, and the free scoring continued as Neil, returning
to his best form, easily beat Carl Walker with a lovely 47
break on route to a 60-21 victory. The third frame saw Linsay
Knox for Shifnal taking on Broseley’s own potting machine
Graham Long. Graham has had a wonderful season, but once again
he had no answers as Linsay, aided by a 30 break, went on
to win 62-26 and put Shifnal 3-0 up. Frame four saw the evenings
captains come together, with Simon Mcleod taking on Shifnal’s
Angus Way. Angus was in no mood to miss out on the potting
fest, and again a decent break of 36 saw Angus run away to
a 74-32 victory, and put Shifnal 4-0 up in little more than
an hour. It was left to Simon Biddulph to round of the evening
with a frame against Mick Brezwyn, and an easy 72-20 victory
for Simon completed a great win for the Shifnal lads. Broseley
were very gracious in defeat, but are there some cracks appearing
after a fantastic run of form this year.
Anstice A 4 Little Dawley A 1
Anstice A had to make sure of a win to stop a late charge
for second from Little Dawley A and every frame proved to
make it a nervous occasion. First up Keith Price for Anstice
edged out Lee Elcock on the black, even though Lee had first
shot at a cut. Pretty much the pattern of the night as Simon
Yeates also beat Matt Bailey on the black, making it 2-0 to
Anstice on the night. Darren Pountney pulled one back for
Little Dawley as he was in no mood to let the match slip away,
still on cloud 9 from the Doubles final win on Tuesday night,
along with team mate Matt Bailey. Shaun wrapped second up
for Anstice with an impressive performance against Mike King
and seemed to put all his cue problems behind him from the
other night. Ian Duffy fluked the blue in his frame, on route
to beating Jesse Lowe, and making it 4-1 overall. Congratulations
lads on finishing runners-up, and congratulations to Little
Dawley for finishing outright 3rd, still an impressive season
overall.
Bayley E 3 Maddocks C 2
Maddocks C went out fighting against a well organized unit
in the name of Bayley E and came back facing the 2nd Division,
losing 3-2 on the night. In a change to the usual order, Steve
Hassack started the match off against Andy O’Brian.
Both men have had a good solid season but it turned out to
be Steve’s night as he hit a mid thirty break and put
the Maddocks C team ahead.
The Ironmen, needing all 5 frames to be guaranteed safety,
seemed to be heading for the plan with Joe Oliver starting
well against Steve Hoof. Joe, who has had an “up‘n
down, unlucky” season with the cue, just failed to get
over the line with Steve potting very well to take the frame
47-31. Ken Davies Snr then came up against “arch enemy”
Jimmy Hill and he must of regretted beating him the night
before. Jim matched Ken’s safety play and kept a slight
lead throughout the frame but in a frantic finish on the colours
Jim managed to pot a long blue and, unusually, let his emotions
show by shouting “Get in”. It’s a different
game in a Match situation.
So, with a tiny bit of hope left, Skipper Graham Hoof took
on in-form Ali Jones. The game was not the stuff dreams are
made of, in fact it sent most people to sleep! But Graham
stuck to his plan of waiting for his chances to come along.
Unfortunately, for the Oakengates side, the chance came to
Ali, which he took and with the 67-32 win, he also took any
last bit of hope away from the visitors. So Maddocks final
frame in the league came down to Billy Rushton against John
Squire. Billy once again tried his big heart out to get the
win that he has deserved this year but it was not to be with
John controlling the frame and taking the match 3-2 for the
Wellington side.
Maddocks C have enjoyed competing in the first division after
this difficult year in which we lost our dear friend Nev Whitehead.
Good luck to all the teams next season and we will hope to
see you in 2007-08 season.

Maddocks B v 2nd Club B
Last game of the season and both teams along with
Bayley B and Bayley Q could still win the title and/or get
promotion. 2nd Club were definitely in the driving seat with
a 2 point lead at the top going into this last game but having
lost 4-1 the week before to Shifnal D it was far from a foregone
conclusion. The first match saw Mike Thompson start confidently
for 2nd Club and pick up a useful lead before Wally Harper
stroked in a 40 break. Wally eventually closing it out on
the blue to win 77-49. Tom Firmstone then played a very controlled
game against stalwart Les Hicks and after an excellent early
period of safety play from both players Tom won by 59 to 22.
Another game dominated early on by safety play saw Doug Morrey
eventually get the better of Toby Welsh 41-23. That was 2-1
to Maddocks and they knew that only a 4-1 could guarantee
them promotion so it was still all to play for. A close game
from the off between Steve Pritchard and Dave Welsh saw Steve
take it on the black to win 46-38. Dave had clawed his way
back into the game with a stunning escape from a tight snooker
on the brown and after potting the blue and pink an unlikely
victory was on the cards. A wobbled black gave Steve the chance
to close the game off and he did so with more than a little
sigh of relief. 3-1 now and just the 2 captains left - John
Archer for Maddocks and Neil Robinson for 2nd Club. Everything
to play for and the whole season down to the very last game.
News from the other matches was starting to filter through
but both players did their best to ignore it and concentrate
on the game. Neil gradually pulled away by literally picking
off a red and a colour and playing safe and eventually won
by 60 points to 20. The smiles on the faces of the rest of
the 2nd club team made it quite obvious that although Maddocks
had won 3-2 on the night the 2 points were enough for 2nd
Club to clinch promotion and take the title. The nucleus of
the team have been together for the best part of 10 years
and after a few enforced club moves have really found a home
they are comfortable with and where they will hopefully be
for a number of years to come. Commiserations to Maddocks
who fell just short of a promotion spot but with the team
they have they are always going to be in with a shout come
season end.
Round-up 2005-2006:
Div One Winners: Broseley A

Relegated: Audco A and Maddocks C
ALL RESULTS COMPLETE IN DIV ONE
Div Two Winners: Anstice C
Div Two Runners Up: Bayley F
Div Two Highest Break: Richie Hulme (70)
Div Two Most Wins: Andy Elliott (19)
Relegated: Anstice B and ????
MISSING RESULTS:
CODDON C v MINN FATS G on week 22
MINN FATS G v BAYLEY F on week 20
The above two missing results mean that at present Minn Fats
G are sitting in a relegation spot. Please can captains from
Coddon C, Minn Fats G and Bayley F contact me to resolve these
results.
Div Three Winners: 2nd Club B
Div Three Runners Up: Either Bayley B or Maddocks B
Div Three Highest Break: Kevin West (60)
Div Three Most Wins: S Chauhan and maybe L Striling
MISSING RESULTS:
NEWPORT B v HADLEY A on week 22
LDS D v MADDOCKS B on week 21
COMRADES A v LDS D on week 18
The above three missing results mean that at present, Bayley
B occupy 2nd spot, but if Maddocks B won 5-0 against LDS D,
then they would gain promotion instead, by virtue of more
wins. Also, if Les Stirling won against Hadley A, he would
tie the most wins with S Chauhan from Shifnal D, with 15 wins.
Defending Oakengates Doubles Champions reign is ended
Ian Duffy and Shaun Harris from Anstice, the most successful
doubles partnership in recent years in the Telford & District
Snooker League were defeated 3 frames to 1 by previous team
mates Darren Pountney and Matt Bailey, from Little Dawley
Snooker Club.
Frame One proved to be vital as Matt Bailey soon clicked
into his usual potting pattern with a quickfire 34 break which
proved to be enough to open the account for the Little Dawley
lads. Frame Two proved a scrappy affair with Ian Duffy and
Shaun Harris potting the final few colours to level the scores
at 1-1. Frame Three saw Darren Pountney hit form with some
excellent safety and long potting to ensure a 2-1 lead and
edge towards victory. Frame Four was also controlled by the
Little Dawley men and finally finihsed off with an excellent
brown, blue and pink from Matt Bailey to secure Darren and
Matt's first doubles success. This was especially pleasing
as last year Ian and Shaun had inflicted defeat on them in
the semi-finals by 3 frames to 2, so revenge proved sweet.
