During this weeks snooker Anstice A played host to Little
Dawley A. It was a very close match with Anstice A winning
by three frames to two. Young Jamie Fallows recorded a 42
break against Sean Harris to give the Dawley side a good start
and Lee Elcock almost followed suit, only to lose on a re-spotted
black to Ian Duffy.
Keith Price then beat Jesse Lowe to make it 2-1 and in the
next frame Keith’s brother Neil, lost to Ade Henry making
the scores level. The last frame was decided when Nick Oakley
beat Darren Pountney to take the match. So Anstice A, still
unbeaten to date, have not yet stamped their usual authority
over the first division.
Shifnal A were at home to Wellington Billiard Hall A and
won 3-2. with Graham Darrell and Alan Turner recording the
points for the Wellington side.
Meanwhile, Shifnal B acquitted themselves very well at Broseley,
where they came away with two points from the match. Matt
Davies winning for Shifnal, alongside Chris Petford who won
by a single point against the very useful Simon McLeod.
Maddocks A, at home to Bayley E secured four points, one
of those being claimed due to Bayley E being one player short.
Darren Wincott cleared from the yellow in his frame to beat
Steve Hoof. Ian Eldridge lost to Andy O’Brien while
teammate Ian Skelton won comfortably against D. France. Phil
Davies started slowly but potted well to beat John Squires.
Minnesota fats A who thankfully stepped in for the Codden
A side, are finding it tough in this division but managed
to take two points in their match at home to Codden B.
In the second division Bayley A gained a 4-1 win over Dawley
Social B, with Kev Jones being the only winner for his the
Dawley side.
In the local derby Maddocks B playing against Maddocks C
saw two of our more established players matching each other
in the first frame.
Wally Harper and Neville Whitehead who used to play together
at St. Georges, but now rivals at Maddocks, enjoyed a high
scoring game with Wally Harper gaining the first point for
Maddocks B.
Nigel White in his second season for Maddocks B, met the
ever-consistent Colin Smith, who had a comfortable win over
Nigel. Steve Pritchard beat Dave Thomas making it 2-1 for
Maddocks B. In the next frame one of my old teammates Les
Hicks, still playing good snooker, beat the reliable Jim Hill,
A good win for Les. John Archer lost in a close match against
Graham Hoof 48 points to 40, leaving Maddock B winning by
the match by one point.
Maddocks D, who were away to Bayley F, found their opponents
too strong and lost 4-1 the only winner for Maddocks being
Brendan Wincott. Young Tom Maxfield, a player to watch for
the future had a fine 43 break in his match with Roy Adams.
Codden C were at home to the Second club Trench and won the
match 4-1.
It was the first frame that gave the Second club their point
when N. Holmes beat M. Bothwell by a single point. Unfortunately
for the Second club it was all downhill after that frame.
Little Dawley Social G at home to Shifnal F played a very
close match and came out 3-2 winners.
The last result this week for the second division saw Minnesota
G losing 4-1 at home to Anstice C.
All of the results in the third division ended up in 4-1,
except for the match between the Wellington Billiard Hall
B who were playing Little Dawley J.
Wellington had a 5-0 win, a super result for the Wellington
B Side who like lots of sides in our league, form the back
bone of the league, always turning up, but not always, if
ever sharing the spoils of the season!
Another local derby match saw Little Dawley B lose to their
X side by four points to one.
Apart from Phil Padmore all of the games were very closely
fought, although the score line looked formidable for the
Dawley X side.
Bayley B who were at home to Minnesota C lost 4-1 whilst
their fellow team Bayley D had the same score line but in
there favour against Hadley A, at Hadley.
Shifnal D, current leaders of division three had comfortable
win over Newport B. also with a score line of 4-1.
