The Telford Snooker League got into action for the first
time this season on Wed 15th September. Although the Codden
A side dropped out at the last minute, my thanks to Kirk Stevenson
and his lads for stepping into the vacant slot as Minn Fats
A. This means there will be no byes in the first division
now!
Minn A accounted themselves very well in their first league
game ever, in the first division taking two points from the
Wellington A side.
Jamie Fallows made a welcome return for Little Dawley A,
who put his team into a one nil lead against Chris woods,
until Sean Nolan found his potting boots to beat Ade Henry
with a fine forty break. Any ideas of a comeback by Dawley
A was soon forgotten as Jesse Lowe rolling back the years
against Mark Jones put Little Dawley A two up. Lee Elcock
then beat Pete Nolan to make it 3-1. The final match saw Darren
Pountney recapturing some of his old form against another
quality player, Rick bailey, who in his words complimented
Darren for an “excellent clearance from yellow to pink”
That gave Little Dawley A, a wonderful start to the season.
Elsewhere the local derby of Shifnal A versus Shifnal B saw
the A side record a four nil win over the revamped Shifnal
B side. Shifnal B sides win came courtesy of a 78 break from
Matt Davies, the first of many I’m sure. Maddocks A
had a comfortable win of 4-1 against Codden B whilst champions
Anstice A recorded the same score against Broseley who had
one player short! Anstice D, another side with changes this
season saw ex Minnesota Fats Paul Devey record his first win
for new team Anstice D against Steve hoof of Bayley E. Anstice
also had a 4-1 win in the end over Bayley E.
In the second division the second club Trench who have re-entered
the snooker scene after several years away got off to a good
start, winning their match 3-2 against Minnesota Fats G. Bayley
A who didn’t quite make it back to the first division
last season got off to a shaky 3-2 result in there first match.
Anstice C with a couple of new signings lost their opener
3-2 against Shifnal and Little Dawley G also lost to Dawley
B 3-2. Local derby saw Maddocks B off to a great start after
they beat their D side 4-1. Codden C versus Maddocks C saw
some of the players I grew up with still playing good snooker.
Billy Rushton for Maddocks scoring well against John Whitehouse
and in the game of Nev Whitehead versus Ray Whitehead Nev
came out winning comfortably.
In the third division another local derby saw Bayley B beat
newly formed side Bayley Q 4-1 whilst their Bayley D side
won by the same margin away to LDS C. Little Dawley B side
managed a 3-2 win over Minnesota Fats C, and new team LDS
X recorded a 3-2 win when they visited the WBH B side. A bumpy
start for Anstice B Going down 4-1 to Shifnal D with only
George Hammond showing any form. And finally poor Hadley united;
the only team unable to get a point on the league table losing
5-0 to Newport B.
