Once again Broseley had a fine win this week playing away
to Codden B and winning by four frames to one, the surprise
loser after a good run lately, being Mick Brezwyn against
Mark Wall. Mark recorded a 59-7 score line. The closest game
was between Simon Yeates of Codden who lost on the black to
Carl Walker. This win takes Broseley to second place in the
table.
Bayley E, at home, entertained the champions Anstice A, who
once again were in unstoppable form beating Bayley E by four
frames to one. Andy O’Brien being the only winner for
the Bayley team by beating Shawn Harris with a good 44 break
during the match.
Meanwhile, Anstice D who also started the season very well,
were at home to Shifnal A and produced a solid performance
beating the Shifnal lads three frames to two. The first two
games saw Adam Moore beat John Fallows and Darren Wilkie beat
Angus Way to take a two-frame lead. The next two games were
Andy Easthope beating Paul Devey and Lindsay Knox beating
Nigel Wallcroft to make the match all square. In the final
frame Phil Whitby lost the decider on the black to Keith Blackham.
Little Dawley A played the Wellington Billiard Hall at Dawley
where some good snooker was on show. Jamie (Hero) Fallows
beat Andy Yates to give Little Dawley the lead, then Darren
Pountney played Alan Turner. Darren quickly raced into a near
thirty-point lead but then Alan got back into the game with
some good safety and pegged back Darren’s lead to 21
points. Alan then potted a difficult long red and cleared
up to the pink taking the frame to draw the match level. Lee
Elcock then turned on the style and beat Alex Turnbull by
74-23 points. Next up was Richie (Tornado) Heighway who played
the experienced Graham Darrell. Graham won his frame convincingly
leaving his teammate Andy Kendrick to play the decider against
Ade (Snatch) Henry. Kenny produced a nice 44 break and Wellington
won the match. A very enjoyable match on one of the best tables
I have played on so far this season!
Shifnal B at home to Dawley A gained a three two win over
Dawley but even so Dawley A move from bottom spot to fourth
from bottom with these much needed two points.
Finally in the first division Maddocks A had an easy five
point win over Minnesota Fats A who only fielded three players.
Still with Maddocks teams but now in the second division,
where Maddocks C visited Dawley B. Joe Oliver took the first
frame against Ian Ward 57-18, but then Dawley leveled when
Paddy McDowell won a close game beating Dave Thomas on the
black. Next up for Dawley, Kevin Jones playing a very steady
game defeated Colin Smith by 54-24 giving the lead back to
Dawley. The last two frames were both decided on the black
when Jim Hill took pink and black to win his frame with Steve
Hewitt, and then the captains of the respective teams fought
out a long tactical battle with Barry Roden taking an excellent
blue ball and clearing the next two balls to beat Graham Hoof
and win the match for the Dawley side.
Maddocks B away to Shifnal F lost their match by the odd
frame with Doug Morrey and Wally Harper winning for Maddocks
B.
The third Maddocks side in this division, Maddocks D had
a good 4-1 win when they were at home playing Little Dawley
G. This moves Maddocks D a couple of places higher in the
table.
Bayley A increased their lead at the top of the table after
playing away at Anstice C where they came away with a 4-1
win.
Meanwhile their counterparts and still chasing them, Bayley
F retain second spot by gaining a 3-2 win playing away to
the Second Club Trench. In Fact the first three place in this
division remain the same.
Minnesota Fats G move from ninth place in the table to fifth
after securing four points from their match with Codden C
who have dropped to third from bottom of the division.
For some reason this week two match cards are missing from
the third division, therefore the report on this division
will be rather sparse.
The local derby match between Bayley D and Bayley B saw the
B team slide to a three nil deficit very early in the match.
Darren Rhoades beat Dicky Bedall in the first frame. That
was followed by Craig Whitehead and Dave Williams reeling
off the next two frames with Craig beating Dan Oliver and
Dave beating Alan Wheatley. Brian Aberdeen lost the next game
to Kevin west and Dickie Oliver pegged another game back by
beating Dave Dudley.
Little Dawley X found Anstice B a little too much for them,
even though they had home advantage when they suffered a 4-1
defeat. Nice to welcome back Mick Reynolds to snooker, one
of my old team mates who hasn’t played for some time.
Mick still has the touch and won by the comfortable margin
of 35 points against Alex Boyd.
Little Dawley J were also at home to Shifnal D, and suffered
a defeat with the same score line, of four frames to one in
favour of Shifnal D. This means Shifnal D and Bayley D are
in joint first position at this stage of the season.
Now to my hometown team, Newport British legion B, who found
them selves shooting into third place with a very good 4-0
win over Minnesota Fats C. The sole winner for Minnesota was
Dave Welsh who beat Keith Gardener recording a 23 break on
his way to victory.
