The first thing worth noting is that there is to be a
committee meeting at the Bayley Club on Tuesday 29th March
commencing at 7:30pm.
Now onto the games, and Broseley still lead the first division
this week, but only after a determined bid for points from
the Bayley E side whose form has faltered a little this season?
The Bayley side did well to take two points from Broseley
who had the home advantage.
No card from Anstice A for their match!
Little Dawley A, at home to Codden B gathered all five points
in this match where the only close call was Tim Hicks 51,
Phil Slklarzewicz 43.
Maddocks A, whose hopes were dented last week when they lost
4-1, found themselves with the same result yet again, when
the Shifnal A side won 4-1. Daz Wincott being the only winner
for Maddocks when he defeated John Fallows 65-29.
Minnesota Fats A were at home to the Shifnal B side, who
after a 4-1 loss last week, came back strongly again this
week to beat Minnesota 4-1. Highlight of this match would
be, yes you’ve guessed! Matt Davies recording a 96 break
beating Harry Jones 124-5.
Wellington Billiard Hall A played their home match, courtesy
of the Audco club, at the Audco, and couldn’t have wished
for a better start with a 3-2 result at the expense of the
Anstice D side.
The second division side Bayley A, who are doing very nicely,
welcomed back Steve Fletcher to the fold, and after losing
his first frame last week bounced back with some of his old
form making a break of 50 in his win against G. Copson. The
Bayley club are well on track for the second division championship
as they gained a 4-1 win over Little Dawley G.
Meanwhile, Maddocks C are still striving to catch top dogs
Bayley A in the second division, but with just another 3-2
home win over Shifnal F it’s going to be a hard struggle
with the few remaining matches.
The islanders Dave Pye gave them a perfect start when a 44
break, plus more points was enough to see the opposition concede
with two reds left at a score of 73-10. Colin Smith then levelled
the match with a 57-28 victory over Keith Dickenson, followed
by Jim Hills’ 62-34 win over Fred Harper. Joe Oliver
put the match to rest with yet another “ solid performance”
beating John Briscoe 56-13.
That left anchor man Nev Whitehead and ex team mate Chris
“potem of a lampshade” Painter to battle it out
for the last point, and it was Chris who had the upper hand
taking the final pink and victory at 60-42. Thanks to Nev
and Pat for that report.
Dawley B seem to have a mountain to climb now when they took
just three points from the improving Second Club Trench. The
Dawley B side had the home advantage where the outstanding
player for Dawley, Grant Heighway chalked up another win beating
L. Giles 50-20.
Bayley F will be a little disappointed with their loss of
form during the latter half of the season. And they have now
swapped positions in the table with Anstice C, who went to
the Bayley F sides’ club, and came away with a 3-2 win.
While Maddocks B were at home winning 3-2 against Minnesota
Fats G, their club mates Maddtocks D were away to Codden C
where they lost 3-2. This leaves both Maddocks D and C still
at the bottom of the division, but it’s still all very
close down there!
It’s also a scrat for places at the top of the third
division, and although Anstice B have drawn level with Bayley
D, the Bayley side will not be giving in lightly. Bayley D
had to visit Minnesota Fats C and looked like making it a
clean sweep at 4-0, but Neil Robinson overcame Dave Dudley
in the last game 52-42 to pinch a frame.
So to Anstice B, where it was noted by some, that this side
is nicely made up with ex first division players. Perhaps
this was noticeable in this match as they white washed the
Little Dawley J side 5-0, when the Anstice used their home
advantage to the full.
Without being harsh to the next two teams, it did look on
the cards for the Shifnal D side playing at home, to record
a 5-0 win over the Hadley A side. This keeps Shifnal D hopes
alive as they are still well in contention.
Newport British Legion lost at home to the Little Dawley
X side 2-3, and although still with an outside chance of honours
will probably have hoped for a better result in this match.
Little Dawley B at home to Bayley Q, lost their match 4-1,
whilst the Bayley B side recorded the same score line, but
in their favour when the Wellington Billiard Hall B side visited
the Bayley club.
