It’s a little like nip and tuck in the first division
this week as Maddocks A move back into second spot over Broseley
by beating the Anstice D side 4-1. Playing away from home,
the Anstice side couldn’t have hoped for a better start
when Paul Devey took the first frame on the black against
young Ian Eldridge 49-48.
The next frame was also a close affair with Phil Davies also
winning his frame 58-45 against Keith Blackham. Ian Skeleton
then put Maddocks into the lead for the first time in the
evening recording breaks of 16, 21 and 30 whilst beating Darren
Wilkie 67-16.
The next frame was also a blackball game with Darren Wincott
gaining a victory over Phil Reynolds. Dave France won the
last game comfortably 71-13 with a 28 break during the game.
The Anstice A side, at home, took four points from the Wellington
Billiard Hall side with Shawn Harris nearly securing the highest
break of the season, but just ran a little out of position.
That score line, Shawn 72 and Andy Yates 10. Ian Duffy also
made a break of 47 playing Alan Turner winning 66-16. And
so it went on until Nick Oakley met Graham Darrel, who is
playing so well this season. Nick was on the losing end of
this game as Graham won 69-17.
Broseley visited Shifnal A and came away with three points
and a good win over Shifnal, although Shifnals' form this
season is very spasmodic. Graham Long beat John Fallows 65-24
having a 35 break along the way. Carl Walker also had a 34
break as he beat Andy Easthope 69-33. Simon Mcloud beat Angus
Way on the black 52-48 and Lindsay Knox for Shifnal also won
his frame on the black defeating Paul Humphries 50-41. Simon
Biddulph won his frame against Richie Hulme 64-35.
Little Dawley A visited Minnesota Fats A, and although two
of these frames were decided on the black the Little Dawley
side came away with all five points.
Dawley Social also had two of their games decided on the
black, one for the Dawley side and one for the Codden B side,
who were the visitors. Sean Nolan took the first frame on
the black playing S. Yeats 46-44, and then Mark Jones beat
Mark Wall 63-18.
The next frame saw the visitors take the lead when A. Jones
won his frame on the black against P. Nolan. The Dawley side
then secured the match when C. Woods won comfortaby over S.
Downes 64-15. Rick Bailey also scored an easy win over Phil
Szklarzewicz 76-7.
Bayley E entertained Shifnal B at home and lost the match
3-2 to Shifnal. Matt Davies for Shifnal, once again recorded
a 48 break against Steve Hoof. That score line 70-31. John
Squires for Hadley also compiled a 38 break on his way to
victory over Rob Wright 66-18. The only other win for Hadley
came from Ali Jones who beat Ray Evans 53-28.
Bayley A in the second division were without Steve Fletcher
this week as his work commitments have taken him abroad for
a short while. However the Bayley side who were at home to
Maddocks, C still won their match 3-2. Maddocks failed to
make any headway on the leaders and the match was sewn up
after Chris Morgan Adams notched up a late break of 29 on
his way to defeating Joe Oliver 63-21.Steve Nichols doubled
up with victory over Nev Whitehead which included a break
of 25 in his win before Spencer Rowley clinched the match
with a 59-27 triumph over Bill Rushton. Iron man Colin Smith
stopped the rot with a convincing potting show over Arthur
Burrows 71-17, which gave Maddocks their first point. Anchorman
Jim Hill secured the second point of the evening with his
victory over Bob Mason. Bob found he could draw if he took
all the colours but a foul on the blue was enough fillip for
Jim to take the frame 56-20.
Dawley B went to the Codden club to play the Codden C team
and gained a 4-1 win, which puts them into second place in
the division. Codden lost the first two frames with Ian Ward
taking the first frame 66-48 followed by Grant Heighway beating
Don Bayliss 66-22. Codden C then hit back when D. Holmes scored
a 60-11 win over Kev Jones. This could have been the start
of a revival for Codden, and not for the want of trying as
they lost the last two frames on the black ball, Barry Roden
for Dawley beat D. Weaver 52-42 and Paddy McDowell beating
Ray Whitehead 48-47.
Bayley F visited Maddocks B and even with a fine 4-1 win,
remain in the same position and points difference with Dawley
B.
Anstice C move above Codden C after beating the Maddocks
D side by three frames to two.
The Little Dawley G side are locked with the same points
total as Shifnal F, and Maddocks D, after beating the Second
Club Trench 3-2. In spite of losing the match the Second Club
Trench, maintain their position in the table.
Last but not least in the second division, Minnesota G at
home to Shifnal F, gained somewhat of a hollow victory 3-2,
as Shifnal had to concede the last two frames because they
were two players short!
Now to the third division where the leaders Bayley D visited
the Wellington Billiard Hall B side. The Bayley side were
happy to win the match 3-2 and still hold a two-point lead
over their rivals, Shifnal D.
Shifnal D at home to Minnesota Fats C kept up the pursuit
of the Bayley side by beating their opponents 3-2. A very
close match this with three of the games being decided on
the black!
The first frame saw Terry Askew beat Tom Firmstone 55-46
to give Shifnal their first point, followed by Paul Crooks
for Minn Fats winning his frame against Sanjay Chauhan 50-49.
Peter Wharton then regained the lead for Shifnal with a 69-49
score line over Mike Thompson. Ivor Peplow then lost to Dave
Welsh 54-38, which left the match all square. The deciding
frame saw Barrie Easthope beat Toby Welsh 45-42.
Anstice B on cruise control with this team, are making a
nicely timed challenge for the honours as they visited Bayley
B and came away from there with four points. They looked to
be going for the full five but Dickie Oliver had other ideas
and took the last frame from Stew Wimbush 51-21.
Newport B find themselves on equal points with the Anstice
B side but keep themselves well in contention by winning their
match 3-2 when they visited Little Dawley B. This match went
to the wire and left Les Stirling winning the last game against
Simon Evans, 56-11, to give the Newport side victory.
Little Dawley X are now pushing their B side, as a 4-1 win
at Hadley moved them alongside their own B side on level points.
Meanwhile the Little Dawley J side, still finding their feet,
remain locked at the bottom of the table with the Hadley side
after Bayley Q called in on the Dawley side, and then left
with four of the points. The winner for the Dawley side was
Martyn Laugharne who is playing quite well at the moment,
and Martyn defeated Steve Weatherall 52-38.
