Anstice A increased their lead in the first division this
week to four points when they visited Shifnal A. Anstice do
look like retaining their title on this performance. Although
Ian Duffy lost the first frame to John Fallows 65-27, no-
one else in the Shifnal side came close to taking a point
in the match, and Anstice A won the match four frames to one.
Meanwhile the Maddocks A side chasing the champions, visited
Little Dawley A and started well with Phil Davies taking the
first frame against Lee Elcock 58-24. Jesse Lowe then played
Ian Eldridge and had a cracking frame beating Ian by 66-35.
Jesse also had a 39 break during his game. Next up Tim Hicks
beat Leigh France 67-44. By the fourth frame Little Dawley
had won the match when Matt Bailey defeated Dave France 58-19.
Ian Skelton did bring back a welcome point for the Maddocks
side when he beat Darren Pountney 62-41. Maddocks have now
dropped a place to third position as their main rivals Broseley,
have won more matches. Apologies to Little Dawley A, as I
reported that they were a player short in last weeks match,
when in fact it was the Bayley E side that were a player short!
Broseley won their match 3-2 whilst playing at home to Minnesota
Fats A. This was a good performance from Minnesota Fats, who,
although at the foot of the table, show that they are still
capable of taking points from higher placed teams on their
day.
Anstice D were at home to Shifnal B, and although they’re
early showing at the start of the season has dwindled a little,
are still retaining fourth place in spite of losing to Shifnal
B, 3-2.
Codden B are making some progress in the right direction
after a good win over Bayley E, beating the Bayley side 4-1.
In the second division, Maddocks C could not make any headway
on the leaders in spite of a 4-1 win over Little Dawley G.
Nev Whitehead paved the way with victory over Graham Copson.
Graham managed to keep his opponent at bay during the early
part of the game, but the frame slowly turned and Graham found
himself wanting two snookers on the final pink, and finally
succumbed 56-26.Frame two, lasted an hour due to three of
the last reds being close knit together, with the black looming
over the same pocket. The Little Dawley man showed his staying
power to win by 52-31. Colin Smith then made it 2-2 with some
of his old form, beating Rob Whithington 62-42. This frame
also took one hour to play! Jim Hill then made up for lost
time winning his game against Roy Levenue 65-6, in just fifteen
minutes.
Joe Oliver then secured the fourth point by opening with
a 30 break, and not long after, a 31 clearance, to beat Graham
Wiley by an emphatic score of 92 –9.
Maddocks B were at home to Bayley A, but the home draw didn’t
help them much as they went down to the in form, and almost
out of sight in the table, Bayley A. Although the result was
4-1 to the Bayley men, Maddocks B came very close to taking
a couple of points from them, when Doug Morrey lost on the
black to Spencer Rowley 47-40, but in the end it was down
to Les Hicks to secure their only point of the evening.
Dawley Social B are still maintaining the pressure on the
top two in the table, and after losing the opening two games
by the narrowest of margins, still managed to win their match
with Minnesota Fats G, three frames to two.
Bayley F were at home to Codden C, who are always a difficult
side to beat, and will be happy with their 3-2 win over the
Codden side. This win keeps them in contention, with only
two points separating the top three teams in division two.
Shifnal F played Maddocks D at Shifnal this week, and came
out winning 3-2. Chris Painter once again has maintained his
unbeaten record, and got Shifnal off to a winning start by
beating Mick Wincott 59-34.The match was decided in the final
frame on the black ball when Fred Harper Beat Graham Arnold
55-47. Shifnal F are midway in the table but amazingly there
are only three points between themselves and the bottom of
the division!
Just below Shifnal, we find the Second Club Trench who are
picking up some points now, and in a closely fought match
they came out winning by three frames to two, when Anstice
C visited them at Trench.
Only one point separated the two leaders of division three
last week, and the leaders of that division Shifnal D played
away to Bayley B. It was Bayley B who took the spoils here
as they won this match 4-1, doing a great favour for their
teammates Bayley D! In fact this has reversed the placings
in this weeks table, putting the Bayley D side second, but,
with still only one point difference in the table.
Meanwhile in the local derby match between Bayley D and Bayley
Q, no quarter was given to the Bayley D side, as they had
to fight all the way to win their match 3-2. Although the
“D” side went 3-1 up, Richard Tranter made it
a creditable result by taking the last frame against Brian
Aberdeen 64-40.
The Wellington Billiard Hall B side returned a 3-2 score
line after they visited Newport B. A good win this for the
Wellington lads, and although this result must have dented
Newports ambitions, the Newport side still remain in third
spot.
Anstice B were at home to Little Dawley B, and won their
match 4-1. John Darrock got Anstice off to a good start by
beating Garry Clements on the black and having a 22 break
during the match.
Mick Reynolds took the second frame 56-38 playing Simon Evans.
Noels Stones then had a 49 break against Colin Gittus, in
the third frame of the evening, that score line 70-38. George
Hammond carried on in the same vein winning the fourth frame
45-36 against Chris Gifford, before Phil Cottey for Little
Dawley, stopped the rot by winning the last frame 55-46 against
Stew Wimbush. Anstice B could be the side to watch as they
are quietly creeping up on the leaders, and move into fourth
spot.
Minnesota C leave Hadley A stranded at the bottom of the
division three, along with fellow strugglers Little Dawley
J, after they recorded a 4-1 win over the Hadley side.
Little Dawley J were involved in a another local derby match
with their “X” side and this match saw the Little
Dawley J side win by three frames to two.
