TELFORD SNOOKER LEAGUE

Match Report - 10th September 2003

The Telford snooker league resumed this season although there were a few mix ups in the fixtures. However this didn’t upset too many folks as there was some excellent snooker played.

In the first division Codden A recorded a 5-0 nil win over the W.B.Hall A side, although three games were decided on the black ball. The Billiard Hall side that would have been relegated for their first time ever can take hope from this match. It was nice to see Paul Harper playing in our league again, although Mick Hughes probably wouldn’t agree after a sound beating!

Anstice A also recorded a 5-0 win over Minnesota Fats with Ian Duffy, Keith Price and Neil Price having breaks of 30 plus in their respective games.

Maddocks A, beat Broseley 3-2, with Simon McLeod having three 20 plus breaks in his game against Adie Barraclough. Maddocks A will hope to continue as last year, when they had an exceptional season winning prizes.

Shifnal B (formerly WBH E) lost their match 3-2 and were welcoming back Warren Barber to their team. Ray Evans started in fine form and produced a 44 break in his 77 to 35 points win over Adam Moore.

Shifnal A’s local derby match with their E side ended with a win 3-2 to the A side. Finally, Bayley E, back in the first division started with a great result of 5-0 against Little Dawley Social A.

In the second division Little Dawley Social C Played Bayley A and ended 4-1 winners. Colin Gittuss had a 44 break in his game and Steve Fletcher built two formidable breaks of 48 and 57 to record a resounding victory over Graham Wiley Maddocks B, newly promoted will soon find their feet although having lost to Codden C 4-1.

Minnesota Fats B had some close games at home to Little Dawley Social G but found themselves on the end of a 4-1 defeat.

Dawley A, who went into the second division this season found their team drawn against their own B-side. The B-side, a new team this season may still be out of their depth here, as they would have liked to start in division three. However they did manage to take one point when Captain Barry Roden beat Mark Jones on the black ball. Rick Bailey made a 48 break in his match and still maintains the consistency of good snooker in his game.

Codden B played at home to Anstice C with Phil Szkarzewicz being the most emphatic winner over Colin Westwood 84 to 18. Codden also ran out 4-1 winners on the night.

WBH C although seeing some of last seasons players disappear, managed to keep their side together for their match at home to Maddocks C. The captain of the WBH C side was the only winner, their side losing 4-1.

In the third division another local derby match saw Bayley B at home to Bayley F. the match was very close and the result was 3 -2 to Bayley B.

Yet again, another derby match between WBH B and WBH F ended with a 3-2 win for the WBH B side courtesy of the Francis family, Roy, Alan and Danny, they being the winners for the WBH B side.

Anstice B at home to Shifnal was another close game with the result going to Anstice B 3 -2. Little Dawley Social B played Minnesota Fats C who were a player short and had to give the last game to Little Dawley Social B which also gave them the match 3-2.

The league welcomed another new team this season although they played from a well-known venue, Hadley Services United. In their first game at home to Newport B Hadley lost 3-2 to Newport and will probably be well pleased as their side are relevant newcomers to the snooker league. Maddocks D visited Bayley D and came away winning 3-2. Another close match with Dave Dudley making a 25 break in his match.
