Rob Wright refereeing
the 2000 Individual Title
|
|
Telford snooker referee Rob Wright took a step closer to perhaps
one day officiating the countries top professionals when he
successfully completed his Class 1 referees certificate at Goodyear
Sports Club last week.
Rob, who plays snooker for Shifnal E in the Telford League
as well as representing the War Memorial Club in the West
Midlands League, was watched by a panel of experienced referees
as he took charge of a semi final match in the West Midlands
League's individual competition.
He then had to pass a series of tough questions covering
some of the more unusual aspects of the game before being
awarded his first class certificate. He now stands alongside
the countries top referees and has come along way since taking
up refereeing some seven years ago.
Indeed he has also travelled a long way to undertake his
refereeing duties - last year representing the EASB at the
World Under 21 Championships in Latvia where he appeared on
local television when he took charge of one of the semi finals.
And who knows? - Now that he's successfully obtained his
first class ticket it might not be too long before Rob is
appearing on our own screens refereeing the likes of Ronnie
O'Sullivan or Jimmy White!
