Broseley A pulled off the result of the season so far when
they defeated runaway leaders of the Telford Snooker League,
Hills Lane A by four frames to one last week.
There seemed little danger of the reigning champions surrendering
their unbeaten start to the season when Shaun Harris took
the opening frame against Richie Hulme, but surrender it they
did as the home team reeled off the next four frames for a
remarkable victory.
Carl Walker levelled matters as he won frame two 53-33 against
Matt Bailey and the home side went ahead thanks to Mick Brezwyn's
cool 45-25 defeat of Tim Hicks.
Broseley's captain John Shepherd then made certain of his
side's fourth win of the campaign as he accounted for Darren
Pountney and with Simon McLeod securing the final frame against
Ian Duffy Broseley were left to reflect on a remarkable win.
However the defeat doesn't appear to have been too damaging
to Hills Lane's prospects of retaining their title as they
still head the table by eight points ahead of Anstice A and
Coddon A.
Although with both of these teams missing a result from a
previous match, the potential difference is only three points
should the missing card reveal a 5-0 win!
Coddon recorded their fifth win from six when they returned
from Bayley E with a 3-2 victory under their belts.
Any Jones put the home side in front though as he sunk the
final black for a 54-51 win over Ian Ferriday.
Darren Weston squared things up again by taking the next
75-42 from Andy O'Brien but Martin Watkins put the Wellington
side back into the lead with an excellent 75-41 defeat of
visiting captain Dave Lloyd.
However, Coddon were in no mood to surrender to a second
defeat of the season and promptly took the next two frames
for a 3-2 win.
Lee Szklarzewicz made it two all against John Squire before
Adrian Smith wrapped things up with a final frame victory
over home captain David France.
Anstice A had the Price brothers Keith and Neil in fine form
as they recorded a 4-1 win over near neighbours Little Dawley
A,
Adam Moore led the way with a close 48-28 defeat of Richie
Heighway and Neil Price soon doubled the home side's advantage
with a 57 break against Jesse Lowe.
Phil Reynold's then made it three before an excellent run
of 73 saw Keith Price continue the theme to put Anstice four
frames up. Keith looked all set to beat the highest breaks
of his former team mates Ian Duffy and Matthew Davies but
fell short of the 87 point target after missing a pink with
four reds still on the table.
Only Graham Wiley's final frame win over Mick Cahill prevented
the whitewash and left Anstice level with Coddon A in joint
second spot.
Maddocks A also have 19 points, but their total is from seven
games played after they defeated struggling Bayley A by four
frames to one.
The visitors took the lead when Steve Fletcher got the better
of Under 21 Champion Darren Wincott, but it was all downhill
for the Bayley from then on.
Phil Davis met some stern resistance in the shape of Bob
Mason before finally edging home to level the scores and the
Oakengates side went in front when Adrian Barraclough accounted
for Steve Nicholls.
Dave France extended the lead still further before Ian Skelton
benefited from a miscalculation from his opponent as Chris
Morgan-Adams potted the pink only to discover he already needed
a snooker after Ian had potted brown and blue.
Shifnal A are also vying for the coveted second spot following
a 3-2 win at Minnesota fats.
John Fallows opening frame victory over Kevin Blackham set
the home side on the road to a fifth win in seven.
Steve Collins levelled things up with a good 59-49 win over
Linsay Knox only for Shifnal to regain the lead through Andy
Easthope's win over Paul Smith.
Roy Martin then made it 3-1 by beating John Wright 65-39
before Kev West's black ball finish against Simon Biddulph
left Shifnal to return home with three points in the bag to
leave them in fifth place on 18 points.
Both Broseley A and Wellington Billiard Hall A have 18 points
as well - the latter following on from a 4-1 win over Dawley
A.
Nigel Fletcher gave last season's runners-up the lead but
Mark Jones levelled matters by taking the next from Morton
Hughes.
Alan Turner then saw off the challenge of Barry Roden before
young Ian Eldridge won a high scoring encounter with Rick
Bailey, 73-46 to put the home side 3-1 up.
And with Andy Kendrick taking the last frame too against
Gaz Bradshaw, the Billiard Hall made sure they kept in touch
with the other five teams in the race for second place.
DIVISION 2
Shifnal E continue to sparkle - and no one more brightly
than their star man last week Rob Wright who knocked in a
brilliant 46 break only to run out of position on the last
two reds. Nonetheless his effort put the current second division
leaders 4-0 up away to Coddon C.
Aaron Sparkes had set them on their way to a seventh win
in eight outings by taking the opening frame against Sef Tusel.
And things continued to go the visitor's way when, buoyed
by Coventry City's recent revival, Jeff Sparkes took the next
frame too against Don Bayliss.
Richard James then made it three before Rob Wright's potting
came to the fore in the next.
Only a last gasp black ball win for Ray Whitehead over Chris
Petford saved the day for the Coddon as he salvaged a point
by taking the frame 53-46 on a re-spot.
In form Shifnal F cling on to second place following on from
their sixth win of the season however Pot Black D were well
pleased with the 2 points they took when they entertained
the Memorial Men at the 'Duke'
In a match where safety play was the order for most of the
evening, Mick Pearson took the first frame from breakholder
Spence Rowley beating him on the pink 48-30.
Chris Painter then retaliated by overcoming Rob Palin 62-25.
Wally Harper put Shifnal ahead for the first time when after
taking a 44 lead on the colours he eventually took the frame
from Kirk Stevenson 76-24.
Dave Peplow followed suit with a 47 advantage on the yellow
turning into a good win over Mick Egan but Neil Pearson then
gained pot black's second point when his opponent Nev Whitehead
found himself requiring three snookers on the blue and went
down 58-21.
Coddon B close the gap on the Shifnal side slightly after
a 4-1 win over Wellington Billiard Hall X sees them in third
spot along with Wellington Billiard Hall C who also claimed
four points from their game with Pot black A.
Nick Pearce and Mark Wall gave the Donnington side the perfect
start only for M Shadab to pull a frame back for the Billiard
Hall with a 25 break against Andy Jones.
A close 55-41 win for Steve Downs restored Coddon's two frame
lead - and they finished the match in some style with the
evergreen Phil Szklarzewicz defeating M Surfraz to leave the
final score 4-1 to the Coddon boys.
Wellington Billiard Hall C's fifth win of he season was set
up by some excellent play early on from Dave Blagborough and
John Rawlins.
Dave took the first frame for the Wellington side courtesy
of a 34 break against Toby Welsh before captain John Rawlins'
22 break secured the next frame too against Mike Thompson.
Paul Crooks did manage to pull one frame back for Pot Black
as he defeated Alex Turnbull by 46 points to 31 but further
wins for Laki Badhan and Paul Lucas put the seal on an excellent
night's work by the C side.
Wellington Billiard Hall E went one better than their C team
as they returned with all five points from their visit to
Anstice B.
Nigel Stallard got the better of his namesake Nigel Wallcroft
and further wins from John Powell and Chris Morris put the
Wellington side well and truly in the driving seat.
Ray Evan's win over Danny Weaver made it four before Paul
Wilkes put the icing on the cake with a final frame victory
over Stuart Wimbush.
Shifnal D stay bottom of the table despite recording their
third win of the season at home to Maddocks C.
Mick Guest's 49-17 win over Geoff Hoof and Simon Ackland's
victory over Joe Oliver gave the Shifnal side the perfect
start. Geoff French took the third frame for them too only
for Maddocks to reply through Jimmy Hill and Billy Rushton
to leave the final score 3-2 to the Shifnal boys.
DIVISION 3
Newport British Legion B may be bottom of the third division
table but they surely won't have to wait much longer for their
first win if they continue to perform as they did against
second placed Anstice C.
John Yapp gave the Newport side the lead by taking the first
frame by 49 points to 30 from Kevin Smith. The Anstice replied
through Andy Elliott's 45-17 success over Darren Edwards and
Jason Hill's victory over Keith Gardner .
However, Alan Davies squared things up once more by taking
a close fourth frame from Steve Ward 43-34 only for Steve
Camp to give the Madeley side their fifth win in seven with
a 60-26 win in the deciding frame against Alan Munn.
With the result from Division 3 leaders Little Dawley C not
yet in the Little Dawley side still head the table by two
points over Anstice C who have a point more than Maddocks
B in third.
The Oakengates side also won 3-2 but will be disappointed
not to have built on a 3-0 lead. Les Hicks was as reliable
as ever as he gave the home side the lead with a 65-25 win
over Welsh Wizard Paul Jones.
Doug Morrey then took the next on the black from Paul Easthope
before Steve Pritchard's 22 break made it 3-0 against Kevin
Ryan.
Visiting captain Bob Tracy's 62-54 win over Graham Tudor
pulled a frame back for the Bayley before an amusing incident
in the next contributed to Dicky Beddall's win over Tony O'Neil.
Tony, had earlier thought he had potted a red which had remained
on the table over the pocket - he promptly got down and potted
the blue only to be called for a foul stroke!
There were no such goings on as Hills Lane B entertained
Wellington Billiard Hall B though. The visitors fell two frames
down early on after Steve Weaver and Lee Harris took the opening
frames. However Kevin Whitehead sparked a revival for the
visitors with a 56-30 win over Kev Davis. And with Ian Atkinson
and Roy Francis winning the last two frames against Steve
Powell and Richie Jones respectively the Wellington side turned
a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 win.
Bayley D cling onto fourth place despite falling to a 3-2
defeat at home to Maddocks D.
Darren Rhoades did give them the lead though only for Brendan
Wincott to draw the visitors level with a black ball win over
Dave Williams.
Martin Wincott then put Maddocks ahead with a 58-27 success
over Bill France and their lead grew still further when Colin
Smith secured the next frame too from home captain Steve Lane.
However, with Dave Dudley claiming the final frame of the
evening against Christine Eldridge for the home side end result
saw Maddocks triumphant by the odd frame.
Graham Copson gave Little Dawley G the lead as they entertained
Wellington Billiard Hall F and they went 2-0 up thanks to
Graham Clement's 63-35 win over Rob Cook.
Steve Weatherall replied for the Billiard Hall and sparked
a mini revival as both Chris Fletcher and Richard Tranter
took the final two frames to secure the Wellington side's
third win this term.
