There's a three way tie at the top of Division 2 of the Telford
Snooker League (Sponsored by Golden Purse Jewelers) after
leaders Wellington Billiard Hall C dropped two games against
Maddocks C to allow both Little Dawley B and Minnesota Fats
to pull level with them
Steve Minshall's narrow 54-40 defeat of J Hill gave the Wellington
side the lead but Maddocks soon drew level thanks to Graham
Hoof''s 52-23 success over W Weeks
Dave Cartledge restored the visitor's lead by taking frame
3 from Billy Rushton but once again the Foundrymen responded
by pulling level at two frames all with Craig Rowley's ten
point win over Mick Birch
But Matt Locklin's 65-33 final frame victory against Joe
Oliver sealed the Billiard Hall's eleventh win of the campaign
- a perfect remedy for their captain John Rawlins who sadly
missed the match due to illness
Little Dawley B joined the Billiard Hall at the top thanks
to a 4-1 triumph at home to Coddon C.
Ian Eldridge had a battle royal against Ray Whitehead in
the opening frame which went all the way to the final black
- the Little Dawley player eventually taking a high scoring
frame 60-53 to put the home side in front
Byron Mitchell followed up by taking the next 63-36 from
Frazer MacKinnon before Sef Tusel produced a 28 break on the
way to reducing the deficit with a 62-48 win over Brendan
Wincott.
Darren Wincott wasted no time in restoring the home side's
two frame advantage as he took frame four against Mark Tusel
before captain Rob Withington made the final score 4-1 with
his 60-34 final frame defeat of Mick Stokes
Minnesota Fats are the third member of the top trio following
their 4-1 win away at Anstice B - although the league table
currently shows them as being four points behind with a game
in hand, it is understood that the missing result sees them
in joint first place
Anstice took a shock lead when Nigel Wallcroft led the way
with a 74-35 victory over K West but there was nothing Nigel
could do for the rest of the match as the Minnesota lads reeled
off all four of the remaining frames.
George Hammond's 21 break couldn't prevent Paul Smith drawing
his side level with a 48 break - the highest in this division
so far.
J Wright put the visitors in front aided by a run of 24 and
further wins from J Collins and Paul Devey sealed an excellent
win for the Cannongate outfit
One time leaders Wellington Billiard Hall E slipped to another
defeat when they entertained Pot Black A and fell to a 4-1
reverse
And there was a rare defeat for Alan Turner when Neil Robinson
gave Pot Black the lead with a 61-50 win over the League Secretary.
Another close finish saw Mick Hughes pull Wellington level
60-50 against Tom Firmstone but it was all downhill for the
home side from then on as Paul Crooks and Dave Welsh got the
better of Ray Evans and Nigel Stallard respectively to put
the visitors 3-1 up
Tony Hall then wrapped things up with a 53-26 win over Chris
Morris to put the seal on a fine win for the Oakengates side.
Coddon B's promotion challenge had faltered slightly in recent
weeks but they seem to be back on track now following a 3-2
win at home to Shifnal E.
Ken Holwell gave the visitors the lead though before Steve
Downes made it one frame apiece with victory over Jeff Sparkes.
Rob "The Gladiator" Wright, who recently revealed
that he once scored 96 per cent in his cycling proficiency
test, peddled hard in the next against Nick Pearce, but Nick
put a spoke in his wheel with a 49-32 third frame win to put
the home side in pole position.
Aaron Sparkes 58-23 triumph over Andy Jones made things all
square again but Phil Szklarzewicz proved too strong in the
last for Fred Harper as Coddon ran out 3-2 winners.
Shifnal D recorded a moral boosting 4-1 win in their bottom
of the table clash with Bayley C to move to within a point
of their opponents at the foot of the table.
Steve Morse's 43-28 win over Pete "Woody" Woodcock
set the foundations for what was to be Shifnal's second win
of the campaign.
A brilliant 34 break by Craig Whitehead couldn't prevent
Mick Guest taking the last three balls for a 54-44 win to
put the home side two up and although Craig Johnson pulled
one frame back, with a 56-21 defeat of Geoff French, the home
side continued to dominate.
Barry Easthope restored their two frame advantage before
Mick Smith rounded things off nicely with a 24 break against
Ian Johnson.
DIVISION 1
Hills Lane A's lead at the top of the table has now increased
to four points following their 4-1 win over Maddocks A.
Matt Bailey continued his recent good form with a 41 break
on the way to beating Adrian Barraclough before Ian Skelton
drew Maddocks level with a fine performance against Shaun
Harris to take the frame 58-42.
Ian Duffy put the league leaders back in front with victory
over Phil Davis before Dave France looked to have weathered
Darren Pountney's earlier 31 break to pot the final black
for victory only to see the white roll in off into a corner
pocket to give the home side a 3-1 lead.
And with Tim Hicks taking the last frame too against Leigh
France the Madeley side look to be well on track to defend
their title for the second successive season - especially
as their closest rivals, Wellington Billiard Hall A, could
only manage a 3-2 win against a strong Anstice A side.
Paul Harpers' win over Nick Oakley gave the home side the
prefect start but Keith Price replied swiftly for the Anstice
with an excellent 67-48 success over Nigel Fletcher.
Morton Hughes put the Billiard Hall in front again by taking
the next against Phil Reynolds but the visitors were full
value for their two points as another Price - this time Neil,
got the better of Spencer Rowley to draw the Madeley side
level
Only Graham Darrell's last frame win over John Jones kept
the Billiard Hall in touch with the leaders, although with
games running out their hopes of regaining the league title
may just be slipping a little
Shifnal F must now be expecting second division snooker next
season after falling to another defeat - this time at the
hands of third placed Coddon A.
Ian Ferriday started the rot when he pipped Wally Harper
in what was a high scoring frame.
The Donnington man opened up with a 22 break only for Wally
to reply with a run of 32 and with the game all even on the
pink the game eventually went Coddon's way when Wally unluckily
went in off the final black
Breaks of 43 and 28 saw Lee Szklarzewicz do a demolition
job as he took the next frame in just ten minutes before Ade
Smith made it 3-0 when he opened up a 29 point lead on the
colours before clinching victory by 64 points to 22.
Dave Lloyd then found himself 40 points up on the colours
as he took frame four for the Coddon but any thoughts the
home side had of completing a nap hand were soon dispelled
as Dave "The Rock" Peplow saved the day for Shifnal
as he produced some of his best snooker to defeat Darren Weston
with a 23 break along the way
Bayley A are still clinging onto that European place after
claiming their eighth win of the season at home to Shifnal
A.
Steve Fletcher led the way with a 75 break against Linsay
Knox which ended when a miss on the penultimate red with the
rest prevented any hopes of a century but Shifnal were soon
level after John Fallows, who once again made the 180 mile
round trip from Banbury just to play his match, beat Arthur
Burrows
Shifnal then went in front as Simon Biddulph got the better
of Bob Mason but wins from Steve Nicholls over Bernie Southern
and Chris Morgan-Adams against Roy Martin secured a 3-2 win
for the Bayley who stay fourth one point ahead of Anstice
A.
Dawley A are slowly creeping away from the relegation area
after recording their sixth win with a 3-2 success away at
Broseley
Although the home side did take the lead when Mick Brezwyn
took the first frame against Chris Woods their joy was short
lived as Mark Jones levelled with an excellent win over Richie
Hulme.
Broseley then edged ahead once more as John Shepherd's 34
break proved just enough to deny Barry Roden as John took
the frame on the final black 52-41 but it was the visitors
who took the last two frames for a hard earned victory
First Rick Bailey got the better of Paul Humphries before
Sean Nolan completed a good night's work for the Dawley boys
with a low scoring 39-27 final frame win over Carl Walker.
DIVISION 3
In Division 3 the X Men are still marching effortlessly towards
the divisional title after completing their thirteenth win
in sixteen games with a 3-2 victory over Bayley D.
John Powell set the tone early one with a 48-38 win over
Brian Aberdeen and when M Shadab took the next against Steve
Lane the Bayley captain must have feared the worst.
However his side rallied superbly as first Dave Williams
beat D Khan and then Dave Dudley secured the fourth frame
44-31 against A Mahmmod to set up the decider.
However it was here that the away side's luck ran out as
A Ali calmly secured the frame and the match for the leaders
with victory over Bill France in the last
Pot Black D still look to be favourites for the runners up
spot despite losing out at home to Maddocks B by three frames
to two.
Les Hicks drew on all his experience to deny Mick Pearson
in the opening frame and the visitors then went two up when
G Arnold beat Rob Palin by 56 points to 26.
Mick Egan then pulled one back for the home side as he accounted
for John Archer in Frame 3 only for Tony O'Neil to produce
a match winning performance against Kirk Stephenson to clinch
the frame and the match by 61 points to 45.
However with Neil Pearson securing the last frame of the
evening against Graham Tudor the Pot Black side look to be
safe in second spot as they are still 8 points clear of Maddocks
D who also lost 3-2 against the ever improving Little Dawley
C.
Mark Bloor gave the Oakengates side the perfect start with
a 48-32 win over Russ France but Mike King took the next with
some style against Ken Davies before visiting captain Steve
Farrington put his side in front with a narrow 47-39 win over
H Hulme.
Craig Newey then sealed Little Dawley's sixth win of their
maiden campaign when he took the next against Alan Bould although
with Roy Lowe claiming the final frame for Maddocks all is
not yet lost as the Oakengates side push for promotion to
Division 2.
Former promotion hopefuls Wellington Billiard Hall F will
surely now have to wait another year to move up a division
after falling to a disastrous 4-1 defeat in the derby match
with Billiard Hall B.
Captain Chris Durham did manage to give the F Team the lead
with a fine 56-24 win over Alan Francis but that was it as
far as his team were concerned as the "home" side
rattled off each of the next four frames.
Ken Francis only just scraped home 46-44 against Rob Cook
to level the match before Andrew Kendrick put the B string
ahead with another close finish 49-38 against Rich Tranter.
R Francis' 71-29 win over Chris Fletcher further extended
the home side's lead before Ian Atkinson put the icing on
the cake with a 50-36 win over Steven Weatherall
Another team celebrating a 4-1 win were Hills Lane B who
overcame Little Dawley G to consolidate their position in
mid table.
Graham Copson put the home side in front as he took the first
frame from Kev Davis but the visitors soon levelled through
Steve Powell's 56-45 win over R Lenevell.
Lee Harris won another close encounter 59-49 against G Clements
to put the visitors in front and they never looked back as
R Jones secured the next frame against Mike Rhodes and then
A Morris got the better of Paul Perks to leave the visitors
happy with four well earned points.
